COMMUNITY GAMES DISCO


The end of year celebratory Disco for participants in Community Games, will be held in Pallaskenry Community Centre on Saturday, September 12, from 7.30 – 9.30 pm. The presentation of the Silver Medals to the Girls Under 13 Rounders Team who reached the finals of Munster last July, will take place during the Disco.

COPSWOOD GOLF CLASSIC



Wednesday September 16, is set aside for a day in Charleville following the little ball. Details from the College.

RECENT WEDDING



When Sandra Sheahan met Willie Biggane at a wedding three years ago in the Devon Inn, they decided to return there for their own reception. Their nuptials took place in St. Joseph’s Church, Kildimo, on August 28 with our late Canon Donal presiding, with the appropriate opening hymn, ‘Canon in D’. The Chief Bridesmaid was Caroline Sheahan, with assistance from Laura Sheahan, Bríd Cahill and Corinna White. Best Man was Bobby Biggane, with David Condon, Seamus Ahern and Karl Hanley as Groomsmen. The duties of Flower Girl were ably performed by Alex Sheahan Bennis, while Rory Condon was the efficient Page Boy. Paula Hourigan and Denis Noonan proclaimed the Readings and the Prayers of the Faithful were led by Shane O’Grady, Anne-Marie Henihan, Helen Keogh, Tom Hartigan, Stephen Downey and Eddie Toomey. Bríd Cahill read the Communion Reflection. Musical accompaniment was performed on the Organ by Sarah O’Kennedy. The Groom is the son of Billy and the late Mary from Ballingarry, while Sandra is daughter of Eileen and her late father John. The Honeymoon is being spent in the US, following which the happy couple will return to the adjoining parish of Kilcornan to live. Sandra will resume her post as Chartered Surveyor with Power and Associates and Willie is available for specialist stonemasonry.

BLEACH LOUGH ANGLERS



The fishing club is running a fundraising raffle to be drawn on September 27 at their Clubhouse. There are four valuable cash prizes from €400 to €50. Funds raised will go toward the further development of the Lake area, which is already showing signs of great development in recent times with facilities for wheelchair anglers. Tickets cost €2 each or book of three for €5. The Registered Office of the Club is at No 15, The Oval, Gouldavoher, from where tickets are available and enquiries may be made.



ART EXHIBITION


Limerick Co. Co, Arts Office invites everybody to the Exhibition by members of the Mid West Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Group. The exhibition is entitled ‘Expressions’ and is the work of Gillian Bolger, John Byrne, Collete Condon, Deirdre Halvey, Michelle Kelleher and Michelle Mac Sweeney. The official Opening is on this Thursday, September 10 at 2.30pm, in Dooradoyle Library and may be viewed during opening hours until September 30.

MASS TIME CHANGES


As and from Saturday September 5, the following revised Mass time arrangements will apply:

Saturday Vigil Mass 7pm in St Mary’s Church, Pallaskenry.

Sunday Mass 11.00 St Joseph’s Church, Kildimo.

The well-travelled May Galvin was among the group of ICA ladies from Cappagh, Caherdavin, Crecora and Oola who recently enjoyed a Baltic cruise. The world is becoming a very small place in relation to places visited by May so where else?



COMMUNITY LOTTO



In the weekly draw on September 1, numbers 3, 6, 7 & 22 were the winning combination for a Jackpot of €2,600. As no punter made the winning prediction, five ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn for prizes of €20 each, which went to La Famille Mangan; Emma, Eoin & friends; John McMahon; Pat Kelly and Karen O’Brien. The new Community Council invites your participation in this draw, the proceeds of which are channelled back into community development. The €2 tickets are available at the local P.O. and the Pubs.




PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION


Participants in Heritage Week are invited to enter a competition by sharing their photographic records of the event. There are three competitive levels, from age 7-12, 13-21 and over 21. The winners will be those who illustrate originality and creativity and demonstrate an understanding of the theme of Heritage Week- ‘be part of it, it’s part of you. All details are available on the Heritage website.

STUDENT FUNDING
Applications are now sought for this fund, which offers small-scale grants for a limited number of eligible students who are in further or third level education. Eligible expenses include support for fees, books, travel, childcare subsistence, rent or other necessary resources. KARATE


Pallaskenry students of the ‘Twin Dragon Karate Association’ were all successful in their examinations recently and received the appropriate Belts and Certificates. Their success is a tribute to the experienced Sensei Matt Fitzgerald and the eight Black Belts and four Instructors in his team. Students of the Club now number ninety and rising, with two new city clubs opening. The local training takes place on Tuesday evenings from 8.30 to 9.30, in Pallaskenry Community Hall. Karate is not just about self-defence, but it helps to increase general well-being and confidence while improving your fitness level. CALLING ALL BEETHOVEN FANS



The Autumn Music at Castleconnell Series has begun and every second Tuesday evening until December 8, the featured composer is Beethoven. The best of Irish musical talent has been secured by Limerick County Arts Office and the renowned Austrian Haydn Trio ‘Eisenstadt’, will also perform. The venue is Castleconnell’s Church of All Saints and tickets are available at the door of from the Arts Office at 061 496498/496300.



CHARITY WALK


A walk is taking place in Doon, Co. Limerick on the 13th of September, in aid of Chernobyl Children’s Project International, Down Syndrome Limerick and the Redhill School for Autistic Children. VICTORY PARTY


All are invited to the homecoming party for John Loftus of Ballybrown on this Thursday, September 10, at ‘De Bucket’Pub,Ferrybridge. John was one of the victorious Irish Transplant Team who recently returned from the Australian games with a bucketful of medals. John’s two gold merits a fulsome return party and Denis Allen will be on hand to enliven the proceedings. Apart from his rendition of ‘Limerick You’re a Lady’, Mary O’Dea will render the ‘Rose of Mooncoin’ for her Kilkenny patrons. No cover charge for this event.


LOTTO WIN


Sarah O’Dea of Ballyculhane was presented with her winning cheque in the Patrickswell and District GAA Lotto at the clubhouse Ballybrown on Monday, September 10. What to do with this €8,000 is Sarah’s problem!
