KILDIMO COMMUNITY NOTES W/E September 10 2011

ANNIVERSARIES:  Deceased members of our community who are remembered in Masses include Helen Cullinan and Kieran Battles. On Sunday next September 11 at 12.00 the month’s mind Mass for Neddy Madigan will be celebrated and  Anniversary Mass for Dan McMahon .
The Month’s mind Mass for Sr Brigid (Peggy) O’Shaughnessy, Presentation Convent ,Matlock will be celebrated on Tuesday September 13  at 7pm in St Joseph’s Church .Kildimo
Sympathy is extended to Tom O’Brien of Kilmoreen on the recent death of his sister Breda. 
May they all rest in peace.  

Bantracht na Tuaithe: Get out  your knitting needles and come along to the ICA Knit-a-thon on Friday September 30 which is being held nationwide and participate in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.
The Limerick Federation event takes place at Limerick Milk Market between 11am and 4pm on the day. ICA members and non members who are interested in knitting are welcome. As a rota is being drawn up please give your name to any ICA member.
Reminder to those members travelling to Devon and Cornwall  that their coach will leave Crescent Shopping Centre on Monday next September 12 at 4.45am sharp . Additional Pick up Point at Ballykisteen Hotel, Limerick Junction  5.15am.Happy travelling.


DARTS EXTRAVAGANZA FOR CARI:  Local fundraisers are organising a world class event in Slattery’s on September 9 with the visit of John Part, World Champion Darts Player.  Darts enthusiasts can take on the three-times world champ and in the process provide much-needed funds for Cari.  Sponsorship cards are available from Martin Hogan of Slattery’s or from Joe Gleeson.  At 20 cent a line your support will not entail a huge financial burden.  It is anticipated to field sixteen opponents to John, all of whom will raise €100 each in sponsorship.  As you know, the facilities of Cari- ‘Care of Children at Risk in Ireland’ on the Ennis Road, Limerick, is very dependent on volunteer workers and local fundraising to continue this worthwhile venture.  This visit offers non-players a unique chance to see the champion demonstrating his extraordinary skill at the dart board, and a raffle on the night will give you a chance to come away a winner.  John is one of a very few ‘nine-darters’ to achieve that distinction and his Kildimo visit offers a rare opportunity to see this cool Canadian in action.

 DANCING AT THE CROSSROADS:  Many roads lead to Curragh Chase cross outside the gates to the big house.  On Sunday next September 11, these roads will bring people to re-live the events that took place at these same crossroads up to the middle of the last century.  One ninety plus surviving musician who played there for many years, namely Michael O’Neill from Kilnockan crossing gates, will again come with his accordion and “rasp out” a tune, as he describes his playing.  Other local musicians will then continue and lead the dancing for the afternoon.  Many locals who can trace their family beginnings to relationships that began at Guerin’s Platform, will also attend.  This is a free event with food and beverages offered by the organising committee.  Car parking will be provided off-road near the site

WOMEN IN BUSINESS:  Limerick County Enterprise Board invites you to the September Women In Business Networking Event under the direction of Catherine McGeachy.  This takes place at the Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel on Wednesday, September 14 from 6.00 to 9.00 pm.  Further details from the Limerick County Enterprise Board at Lissanalta House, Dooradoyle.

SALESIAN COLLEGE NEWS: Our Open Night for incoming 1^st year students 2012/2013 will take place on Wednesday, October 12, at 7.30pm in the School Hall. Transition Year Students will travel to Cappanalea Outdoor Education Centre in Co. Kerry from Friday, to Sunday, 16 to 18 September. Induction Night for Parents of current 1^st year students will take place on Wednesday, September 21 at 7.30pm in the hall. 

Cervical Cancer Screening Vaccination for 1^st year girls will take place on Thursday, September 22.  Students are reminded to have a breakfast on this morning.  1^st Year boys will also receive the three-in-one vaccination on this date.  Information packs will be disturbed to students when received by the school.  Junior Certificate Results are due out on Wednesday September 14.  6^th Year Students will travel to the Careers Exhibition in Limerick Racecourse on Tuesday morning, September 27. After school Music Classes will resume shortly.  

 

COMMUNITY LOTTO:  The draw on August 30 produced numbers 7, 8, 20 & 23 as the winning combination for a Jackpot of € 9,200.  No member predicted this sequence and in consequence Lucky Dips of €20 each were drawn by Damien & Marie O’Brien; Josh & Lee O’Reilly; Ann O’Dea; John Sheahan and Pat Loftus & Mike Conway.  You can now have three shots at the Jackpot for €5 at any of the ticket sales venues or from a member of the Community Council.

BIRD WATCHING:  The Clare Branch of Birdwatch Ireland invites interested persons to the Shannon Airport Lagoon on Saturday, September 10.  Meet at the Golf Club near the airport at 10.00 am to view Waders, Duck, Ruff and Curlew Sandpiper under the direction of John Rattigan and Stan Nugent.
The Limerick Branch of Birdwatch Ireland is leading an outing to the Tarbert/Loughill area on Saturday, September 17.  Davey Farrer will be on hand to point out Waders, Gulls and Duck.  Assemble at the Shannon Ferry Bar, Tarbert at 11.00 am.  Further details from 086 3439722.

A Country House Writers' Weekend: An 'Introduction to Novel Writing' weekend in a historic home in Askeaton Co. Limerick, September 23 / 25 2011.  Author Kevin Barry will be performing from his sharply witty works ("There are Little Kingdoms" & stories in the 'New Yorker').  The course director is novelist Denyse Woods, fresh from the West Cork Literary Festival and literary agent Faith O'Grady will supply the publishing 'know-how'.     Link to website www.writersweekend.net  for further information.
