PARISH PRIEST INSTALLED

Fr. John Donworth, who has taken over his new ministry in Kildimo/Pallaskenry, has been officially installed in his new office during evening mass on Saturday, October 11. The ceremony was presided over by the Bishop’s delegate Right Rev. Monsignor Daniel Neenan V.G. The new P.P. expressed his wish to visit parishioners where feasible while outlining his vision of Church as community. Best wishes to the new incumbent. Items for inclusion in the Parish Newsletter may be submitted to the Parish Office or to 394134 or 087 2237501

COMMUNITY ALERT

Kildimo Community Alert is holding a General Meeting at the on Wednesday, October 22, at 8.00pm, in the ‘Seven Sisters’. All past members of this group are invited to attend and new members are sought to carry on the work. Your time commitment for this task is very minimal and occasional. The main duties of members is to help raise community awareness in relation to the safety of the elder members of the community especially and the provision of safety devices in that regard. These are available through state funding and professionally installed. The development of new houses and their new citizens is expected to stimulate interest in this worthy cause. Garda Noel Nicholson, the Community Liaison Officer for Community Alert, will be in attendance to advise on the above matters.

PUB QUIZ

‘De Bucket’ is the venue for their Annual Quiz, which is held with the support of the Vintners Federation. The worthy cause of this endeavour is ‘Rehab’ and Power’s Whiskey is supplying valuable and potable prizes. Be there on Thursday next October 16 at 8.00pm where tables of four at €40 each, will battle it out in a fun atmosphere.

LIFE SAVING

The Community Council is providing an AED (Automatic Emergency Defibrillator) for public use. This will be available to suitably trained members of the community in the event of heart attacks from which a great number of citizens die or are seriously disabled annually. The use of such devices is well within the capacity of non-medical persons who will undergo a training course in their usage. The early minutes following a heart attack are crucial to survival and these devices are critical in maintaining oxygen supply to the brain and heart tissues pending the arrival of emergency services. Sarah Beard (394940/0877756590) and Shirley Steritt (085 1036207) are collecting the names of civic minded and responsible citizens who may have qualifications to use the defibrillator, or who are willing to undergo a short course in their use.

COMMUNITY LOTTO

Numbers 12, 15, 22 & 23 were the combination required to win the Jackpot of €1,900 on October 7. As no member predicted these numbers, ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn by Margaret Barrett, Knockroe (€50); Gerald Keith Griffin, Ballynacarriga (€30) and Thomas Keyes, Ballynacarriga (€20).
The public draw on October 14 takes place at ‘The Seven Sisters’. Tickets are available for a mere €2.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

What birthday present do you give the woman that has everything? Try a Papal audience. And that is precisely what the Harte family did when Rosario reached a certain age. Michael whisked Rosario off to the Eternal City with the possible ulterior motive of seeing the house of Papa Benedictus with a view to doing a few renovations to the ageing structure. All comparisons with ‘ageing structures’ and Rosario are purely coincidental and not intended.
