COMMUNITY LOTTO

In the weekly draw on June 2, numbers 9, 19, 24 & 25 were the winning combination for a Jackpot of €1,300. As no punter made the winning prediction, five ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn for prizes of €20 each, which went to Siobhán Guinan, Mossie Griffin, Bryan Griffin, Thomas Keyes and Chrissie McMahon.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING

An important date for your diary is the AGM of the local Community Council on this Wednesday June 10 in the Library at 8.30pm. The present Council have been working hard to expedite development of the community site and in the raising of funds through the weekly Lotto, to maintain the Library. The success of local development depends on local participation- ‘ní neart go cur le céile’.

NATIONAL SCHOOL ON TOUR

Students of the local school are getting to know their local area ‘Golden Mile’. The mile from ‘De Bucket’ on the old road will be visited by the boys and girls on a conducted tour, which will illustrate the flora and (hopefully) fauna of that area. With a bit of luck the elusive cuckoo may perform his/her distinctive song in the pastures adjoining the route.

SUMMER CAMP FOR ASPIRING THESPIANS

The lack of facilities to develop acting skills in the area of West Limerick is being addressed by Alison Cowpar-Boylan of Adare. Marking a first for the area, she is conducting two summer camp workshops in an effort to fill the void and develop acting and dramatic skills in younger people. The two camps will begin on July 13 and 27. It is ultimately intended to set up a Stage Craft Theatre School to open in September. Alison will gladly take enquiries at 087 9952605 or by e-mail to aliboylan@yahoo.co.uk

KENRY GOLFERS

Fancy a game? Members are travelling to Charleville on Saturday next June 13, teeing off between 9 and 10 am. Contact Matty if you intend to join the fun at 086 0798093.

ART FOR ALL

The many local artists may be interested in an exhibition by Gillian Kenny, which is opening on this Thursday, June 11. While the opening reception is at 7.00pm on the day, at 1.00pm on the same day you may gain an insight into the artist’s mind and methods through her gallery talk. The paintings are largely based on her travels from her home in Limerick, via Kilkee to America and Canada. There is a strong influence from the picture postcards we all knew in earlier times. There are also ‘Family Days’ at the Gallery on June 27 and July 11, for which prior booking is required. As always, admission to the Limerick City Gallery of Art, in the Carnegie Building in Pery Square, is free and the permanent exhibition there has many examples of Ireland’s greatest artists.

CAMP BOSCO

The Salesian College, Pallaskenry once again will host Camp Bosco for a three week period from Monday July 6 to Friday July 24 between 1.30pm and 5.30pm each day. Cost is €75 per week with three week special offers and family group rates. Further information from (061) 393105
