Kildimo Community Notes Wed September 19 th 2009

COMMUNITY COUNCIL



There has been much favourable comment on the efforts of the Community Council to follow the lead of Kildimo’s business and private premises in their floral displays. The current summer show didn’t suffer much from drought and already planning is afoot for a winter display. These efforts have been made possible through the sponsorship of the following, namely, the ICA, the P.O., Ward Brothers, Kildimo Food Court, Mid-West Tyres, the ‘Seven Sisters’, Michael & Kathleen Coughlan, Pat & Mary Flannery, Coolbeg Lodge B & B, the Parish Church Fund, Credit Union, Coco Cabs, Dr. Mary Crowley, Joan Walsh and Anonymous.


COUNTY CLASSICS



Limerick Co. Co. Arts Office have organised two concerts of Classical music in the county, bringing the best of music to your area. In Rathkeale Arts Centre- over the Library- the Violin and Classical Accordian Duo of Katherine Hunka and Dermot Dunne will present music by Bartok, Ligeti, de Falla, Tartine, Stravinsky and Piazzolla on Friday, September 18 at 8.00pm. The same concert will be presented in St . John’s Church, Knockainey on the following Saturday at 8.15pm. Tickets at €10 may be purchased at the entrance and further details are available from the Co. Co. at arts@limerickcoco.ie.

BLEACH LOUGH ANGLERS



The fishing club is running a fundraising raffle to be drawn on September 27 at their Clubhouse. There are four valuable cash prizes from €400 to €50. Funds raised will go toward the further development of the Lake area, which is already showing signs of great development in recent times with facilities for wheelchair anglers. Tickets cost €2 each or book of three for €5. The Registered Office of the Club is at No 15, The Oval, Gouldavoher, from where tickets are available and enquiries may be made.


MASS TIME CHANGES


As and from Saturday September 5, the following revised Mass time arrangements will apply:

Saturday Vigil Mass 7pm in St Mary’s Church, Pallaskenry.

Sunday Mass 11.00 St Joseph’s Church, Kildimo.



ANNIVERSARIES


The following, whose anniversaries occur around this time are remembered and Masses are being arranged:Julia O’Mahony,Ballyrune, Johnny Loftus,Glenameade and Patrick Walsh ,Ballyrune.

ATTENTION POETS!



James Harpur who won the Hartnett poetry prize this year is returning to NCW Library on September 17, to deliver a reading. You too might share the microphone during the ‘open mic session’ and read your creations. The evening is being introduced by Eileen Sheehan, the Kerry poet, who is well known in local ‘creative writing’ circles. The main guest of the evening has many books of poetry to his credit as well as many honourable awards and residencies. All welcome at 8.00pm.



Bantracht Na Tuaithe Cill Díoma


Members are reminded of the forthcoming federation meeting in Woodlands,Adare on Wednesday next September 23rd commencing at 8pm.If you intend entering any of the competitions on the night please submit you entries well in advance of the commencement time .



COMMUNITY LOTTO



In the weekly draw on September 8, numbers 4, 11, 14 & 16 were the winning combination for a Jackpot of €2,700. As no punter made the winning prediction, five ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn for prizes of €20 each, which went to Kevin Kelly, Ballyvareen; Armelle Mangan, Curraheen; Joe Gleeson, Ballynacarriga; Gerard Keith Griffin, Ballynacarriga and Brian Barrett, Knockroe. The new Community Council invites your participation in this draw, the proceeds of which are channelled back into community development. The €2 tickets are available at the local P.O. and the Pubs.




PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION


Participants in Heritage Week are invited to enter a competition by sharing their photographic records of the event. There are three competitive levels, from age 7-12, 13-21 and over 21. The winners will be those who illustrate originality and creativity and demonstrate an understanding of the theme of Heritage Week- ‘be part of it, it’s part of you. All details are available on the Heritage website.

STUDENT FUNDING
Applications are now sought for this fund, which offers small-scale grants for a limited number of eligible students who are in further or third level education. Eligible expenses include support for fees, books, travel, childcare subsistence, rent or other necessary resources. CALLING ALL BEETHOVEN FANS



The Autumn Music at Castleconnell Series has begun and every second Tuesday evening until December 8, the featured composer is Beethoven. The best of Irish musical talent has been secured by Limerick County Arts Office and the renowned Austrian Haydn Trio ‘Eisenstadt’, will also perform. The venue is Castleconnell’s Church of All Saints and tickets are available at the door of from the Arts Office at 061 496498/496300.
