ANNIVERSARIES

The following, whose anniversaries occur around this time are remembered and Masses are being arranged: Ann Reidy, Ballyrune (Thursday November 12 10.00), Jim McMahon,Ballyvareen (Friday November 13 10.00) and Charlie Keogh,Carheeney ( Sunday November 15 11.00)

Mass for the deceased members of the Civil Defence will be celebrated in St Joseph’s Church, Kildimo on Wednesday November 18 at 11am

ART EXHIBITION

The place to be on this Thursday November 12 is in Newcastle West Library at the official opening of ‘Obair na mBan X ’Art exhibition by members of the Killulta ICA Painting Group, Kildimo. National ICA President Anne Maria Dennison will perform the honours at 8pm. and as is customary an enjoyable night is anticipated. The exhibition will continue to the end of the month.

SENIORS

With party time beckoning, the local Committee are planning the annual Seniors Christmas dinner. To facilitate this event, a Churchgate Collection is being taken up on Sunday, November 15 at Masses. The date for this year’s party is January 10, so put this date into your calendar. Newer citizens to the area are getting an especial invitation and if you know such people, be sure to call and invite them to join in the fun and get to know their new neighbours. We’ll remind you again closer to the event.

KENRY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Your own local history society invites you to their next lecture by Br. John Feheney, Presentation Brother. Br. John has done extensive research into people in the Kenry barony and much of it may be found in his publication, ‘Askeaton/Ballysteen, A Biographical Dictionary’. An example of his detailed research which may prove useful to you at the next Table Quiz when you’re asked to name the Church of Ireland Vicar of Kildimo in 1700. (“Not many people know this”). The answer is Reverend Solomon Delany who died in 1731 while Rector of Askeaton, page 25. The title of Br. John’s talk on November 27 is, ‘The Gentry of Kenry’, during which we’ll no doubt learn about the Wallers of Castletown and the Westropp’s of Mellon, among others. The venue is the Religion Room of Copswood College, courtesy of the school authorities and the talk begins at 8.00 pm. All welcome free of charge.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Golden Vale Limerick Community Games launched its 40th Anniversary book on Sat. 7th Nov. in the Rathkeale House Hotel to a packed audience. Sportsmanship awards were also presented to the Secretary, P.R.O., Volunteer and over 18 youth. Congratulations to Noelle Nicholson,Curaheen who won the over 18 youth award, She will now go on to represent Limerick at the national finals on 21st Nov. in Ballinasloe, where we wish her the best of luck.

‘WOMEN’S VOICES’

Continuing their series of artistic and cultural events, Limerick Co. Co. Arts Office are holding ‘Women’s Voices/Women’s Stories’ at three different locations during November. Performing artists includes singer Noreen Ní Riain, Cora Fenton of ‘Call Back Theatre’ and poet Eileen Sheehan. All events begin at 3.30 pm. The first afternoon is on November 8 and the venue is Castleconnell ACM, with a €5 admission. On November 15 St. John’s Church Knockainey will host the concert, with the Women’s singing group Allundé added to the bill. On November 22 the venue is Glenstal Abbey with Co. Limerick Youth Choir. FAMILY ACTIVITIES

A new and free online service for families and children has been launched. Helen Gaffney is the local co-ordinator who will publish on her website any family activities you may be running. The service is aimed at getting families in touch with local activities, facilities, classes, etc. Parents may sign up for a monthly newsletter detailing all the activities in this area. VOLUNTEER FAIR

The third annual West Limerick Volunteer Fail is taking place on Saturday, November 14 in the Desmond Complex, NCW, from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. This important event is organized by the Volunteer Support Service of West Limerick Resources with the object of making people aware of the vast resources available in West Limerick through Community and Voluntary groups. DESIGN A CARD

To receive a handmade Christmas card is a gift in itself and something to treasure. If you happen to be on the mailing list of the local ICA ladies this Christmas you just might receive such a gift. The Kildimo ICA ladies are currently designing their own cards, which will be on display at their December meeting in The Seven Sisters Pub, Old Kildimo with a prize for the winning entry.
NATIONAL SCHOOL NEWS


The long-awaited time has arrived and the new school extension is ready for opening. This milestone event takes place at 7.00 pm. on Thursday, November 12 and invitations are issued.

COMMUNITY LOTTO

In the weekly draw on November 3, numbers 1, 6, 23 & 27 were the winning combination for a Jackpot of €34. As no punter made the winning prediction, five ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn for prizes of €20 each, which went to John Meade, Ann O’Dea, Louise Byrnes, Alison Griffin and Pat Casey.
