KILDIMO COMMUNITY NOTES W/E March 26 2011

Muriel Hayes, Anne Hayes, Kitty Mc Mahon and Breda Mc Cauley

BEREAVED

The local community are saddened by the death of Rita Cahill (nee O’Sullivan) on Friday, March 18.  Her funeral took place to the local cemetery following Requiem Mass on Monday, March 21 at noon.  She is survived by her husband John, her daughters Catríona, Bríd, Maireád and Siobhán and her sons Michael and Donal, along with her brothers and sisters and extended families.  Sympathy is extended to her family, friends and neighbours.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.

  ‘AR MUIN NA MUICE’

‘On the pigs back’, is how young Madeline Mulqueen is described on the front page of ‘Foinse’, the Irish language newspaper of March 16, 2011.  Two photos by Patrick McHugh of the model from Carheeny also grace the pages.  Her interview ‘as gaeilge’ recounts her delight in the publicity her appearance on the Rubberbandits ‘There’s a horse outside’ has given her.  Such a stimulus, allied to her modelling talents has brought her to notice by a larger public and a consequent rise in modelling engagements.  Madeline has a keen interest in drama and rightly points out the comparison between the two.  Another of her loves and talents is the native teanga that she looks forward to using when she returns home on visits.

GOGGIN COTTAGE RESTORATION
Following the recent visit of members of the Irish Landmark Trust who have undertaken the restoration of the late Jack’s cottage, they have contacted the Community Council and others about their recent grant from the Heritage Council for a further €10,000, to continue the work.  Given the nature of the restorative works and the heavy costs involved, this recent grant will not finalise the work so the Landmark Trust is anxious to hear of further donors who might willingly come on board.  The Trust will be offering the cottage for holiday lettings for a period in which they will recoup their financial commitments, before handing it back to the original owners.  This is the first such rest oration of its kind undertaken by the Trust, who hold many prestigious properties all over Ireland, although  this is their first Co. Limerick involvement.  Gate lodges and Lighthouse properties feature largely on their list of restored holiday properties, so the late Jack would be proud to note the inclusion of his cottage among such a list that includes Russborough House and Castletown estate.  The website of the Trust iswww.irishlandmark.com
HOSPICE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

The weekend of March 26/27 has been designated for the Churchgate Collection in the parishes of Kildimo/Pallaskenry.  The needs of the Hospice are even greater in these straitened times and therefore voluntary contributions are in even greater demand.  If Hospice needs us, we don’t need reminding that we also need Hospice.  Come prepared to help when attending weekend Masses.

LENTEN PILGRIMAGE
A local penitential walk of ten kilometres is being organised by the Parish Church on Saturday April 2.  All are welcome to participate and pray privately at stations along the way to St. Brigid’s Well in Kilbreedy.  Walkers will meet at the Seven Sisters at 11. am.  You are advised to wear shoes appropriate to road and field and note that the descent into the little vale in which the well is situated may be wet and slippery, so a pilgrim’s staff might save your blushes.  The value of a communal walk in penitential mode can only strengthen the bonds within the believing community according to Fr. John Donworth who will lead the pilgrims.
