COMMUNITY LOTTO JACKPOT €8,850 AND RISING: The Lotto draw on June 21, was for a prize of €8,800 and no punter predicted the winning combination of 18, 19, 21 & 28. When you next visit the ‘The Seven Sisters’, Post Office, ‘De Bucket’, Slattery’s or the Dromore Inn, be sure to fill in your lucky numbers where a minimum investment of €2 could cover your holiday costs. With the rise of the Jackpot, there is also a noticeable rise in ticket sales and to increase your chance of landing the big one, tickets will soon be on sale at three for €5.

This weekend saw the end of an era as one of our many dedicated volunteers took her leave of Pallaskenry/Kildimo community games for life in Roscommon. A presentation was made on Saturday to Agnes O Dowd of a framed photograph of Dromore Castle by Mary O Shaughnessy by the chairman Damien O Brien.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL: The AGM of the local community council was held in the Library on Tuesday, June 21. The attendance from the community at large was somewhat underwhelming. A large compliment of the present committee made themselves available to attend as did the group who oversee the weekly Lotto draw. The position of Chairperson remains the same with Tommy O’Shea returned as uncontested. Dermot Mullane tendered his written resignation as Secretary and Mary Conway offered to fill that onerous position. As Mary had previously held the position of PRO, it is hoped to co-opt someone into that vacant position. The Community Council will gladly co-opt any others who wish to offer their services for the betterment of the community. Much needs doing and doing needs you!
HISTORICAL TOUR: The Kenry Historical Society and friends will be investigating the border area of the barony with Cappagh on July 24. Jim Riordan of Cappagh has previously led the group around the eastern parts of that parish and this time he will lead the group along the interesting area to the west of Cappagh. This will include some interesting and historic old houses, places of worship, a holy well of early date and graveyards with interesting history and burials. The meeting place will be the Catholic Church of Cappagh from where we will take a circular tour and meet again at the starting point. Jim knows this area like the proverbial ‘back of his hand’ and participants are sure to come away with replete with a wealth of lore which he has collected over a lifetime and which he willingly shares. Three o’clock start at the Church.
HOLIDAY ART: The National Gallery in Dublin offers interesting art packages for children on a weekly basis in July. The ‘Little Masters Workshops’ cater for four to six year olds and the ‘Discovery Club’ does the same for seven to twelve year olds. In all cases parents/guardians must remain with the groups. Very young children are catered for by tours with accompanying parents on the third Wednesday from July to November. Should you visit the gallery with your family at other times, enquire at the Information Desk for the use of free art materials during your visit. Adults and older persons have specially designed events once a month from July to November offering guidance towards life drawing, creative writing and a deeper appreciation of works in the gallery. These latter are free and art materials are supplied. Full information on events in our National Gallery are available by phoning the Education Department on 01 6633505 or education@ngi.ie.
BLAS SUMMER SCHOOL: U.L. is the venue for the traditional music events to be held this month- just the place to send those visitors for an evening! A star cast will entertain on Thursday, June 30, including Mícheal O’Suilleabháin, Donal Lunny and Brendan Begley along with John Carty and friends.
ADARE HERITAGE CENTRE: Traditional music, song & dance show will be staged each Tuesday night at 8.30pm until August 9.
GRAVEYARD DEVELOPMENT: The Strategic Village Plan includes in Part 4 the projected extension plans for the graveyard. The present graveyard extension of former years now approaches its complete fulfillment and lands to the south are in process of acquisition for the provision of 159 new plots. Limerick Co. Co. has made funds available for this extension and the sale of plots will cover the expenses of its preparation. A sub committee of the Community Council will deal with this development and interested persons will be required for this process.
ART EXHIBITION: The work of the Askeaton Art Group entitled ‘Fusion’is currently on show in the Library of N.C.W. until July 4. Over seventy works by the participants may be enjoyed and these include a wide variety of subjects, styles and medium. Prices are very affordable considering the costs involved in framing and these prices are even open to negotiation through Carol Noonan at 087 6535029.
