COMMUNITY LOTTO JACKPOT €8,800 AND RISING: The Lotto draw on June 14, was for a prize of €8,750 and no punter predicted the winning combination of 6, 10, 21& 23.  In consequence, ‘Lucky Dips’ of €20 each were drawn by Armelle Mangan, Curraheen; Joe Gleeson, Ballynacarriga; Marie O’Curry, Ballynacarriga; Chrissie McMahon, Askeaton and John O’Mahony, Ballyrune. .  When you next visit the ‘The Seven Sisters’, Post Office, ‘De Bucket’, Slattery’s or the Dromore Inn, be sure to fill in your lucky numbers where a minimum investment of €2 could cover your holiday costs. Draws take place at public venues on a rotational basis and The Library is the venue on June 21.

A LITTLE PART OF DUBLIN THAT IS KILDIMO:  The Italian Quarter in Dublin’s Millennium Walkway has a spot that is Kildimo in the welcome that awaits locals who drop in to the KOH restaurant.  The source of this welcome is local lad Conor Sexton who runs this funky and vibrant space where the ambience and food has an oriental flavour.  The venue is right beside the Luas stop at Jervis so there’s no excuse if you have time for a quick cocktail or a more leisurely meal.

BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Kildimo was well represented at the summer Federation meeting in Adare last week where several of the local members participated in the flower arranging competition. Among those who submitted entries were Maeve Bradley, May Galvin, Kathleen Griffin and Linda Smyth. Maeve was ‘on call’ for the imminent arrival of a third grandchild, who obliged by her arrival a few days later. Comhgairdeas to all.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL: Part 4 of the Community Development Plan deals with the central issue of community development, namely the provision of community facilities for social and recreational use.  Much thought has gone into the design of a community hall with meeting rooms to accommodate many different users.  The need for a social area to meet for coffee has been a regular idea mooted at the consultative meetings.  This would also cater for visitors to the village who might like to stop for comfort and modest sustenance.  As outlined in this part of the report, the building of this facility is dependent on Keel Grove Construction as a sweetener for their use of the community site for access to further housing development.  Failing this option, a more vigorous community response would be called upon to pursue many funding options.  Help may also be on hand from U.L. faculties in the form of students undertaking a study of our local facilities with a view to maximising their use. The proximity of the old creamery site has also evoked interest on the part of entrepreneurs.  One such interest has centered on a Limerick Filmmaker currently working in Britain who has plans to set up in Ireland.  The building of the old creamery would provide a nucleus for such a venture and for storage of the props necessary for that industry.  As you can see, much remains to be done and this entails many willing shoulders to the wheel.  Our community contains a rich reservoir of skills as yet untapped.  If you think you would have some time to local community development, any member of the community council would like to hear from you either personally or by attendance at their local meetings.  Meanwhile you may read all about this and the other suggestions for local development in the 68 page ‘Kildimo Enhancement Plan’ that was launched on St. Dioma’s Day and which is currently available by e-mailing kildimocommunitycouncil@gmail.com or at a charge of 12 euro for a colour and bound copy by contacting Mary @ 087 6521806 between now and the end of June.

CONFERRED:  At the recent historic ‘Passing Out’ in Templemore Garda Training Depot, local lad Noel Carroll was among the latest batch of Gardaí to ceremonially cast his cap.  The new Garda comes to the force with useful skills in electrics which Noel exercised during the Tiger era.  With cap now firmly planted on his head, Garda Carroll upholds the rule of law in parts of County Clare from his Station in Ennistymon. Congratulations to Noel on his re-invention and to his family for nurturing his lawful aspirations.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT: The death of John Joe Fahey, Carnahalla Doon last weekend, was received
with  great sadness by both past and present Civil Defence members.  The late John Joe actively participated in the Casualty Service for over thirty years as a First Aid instructor conducting classes throughout the county.   He was well known and respected by all whose lives he touched as a teacher in Doon and as activist in local community groups.  Civil Defence ARA members offer their condolences to his wife Ju Ju sons, daughter, mother, siblings, large extended family and friends.
His funeral took place on Sunday June 19, following Requiem Mass in Doon to the local cemetery with a Guard of Honour under the command of Comdt Joss Kirby CDO, drawn from various sections of Civil Defence.
Ní  Imithe uainn ach Imithe Rómhainn.

BLAS SUMMER SCHOOL:  U.L. is the venue for the traditional music events to be held this month- just the place to send those visitors for an evening!  Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill will hold them entranced on Wednesday, June 22 and another star cast will entertain on Thursday, June 30, including Mícheal O’Suilleabháin, Donal Lunny and Brendan Begley along with John Carty and friends.

EXHIBITION OPENING:  You are invited to the Askeaton Art Group’s exhibition opening on Thursday, June 23 at 8.00 pm.  This takes place in the user-friendliest Co. Co. Library in NCW where a warm welcome awaits all patrons.   Paintings on show offer a wide variety of styles, all nurtured by Maureen Barry-Fitzgerald of Ringmoylan.  The official opening will be conducted by Eimear Brophy of Limerick County VEC.
