COMMUNITY COUNCIL:
Part 5 of the Community Development Plan deals with the development of sports facilities in the area. Given the proximity of indoor facilities within easy reach of Kildimo, it is not envisaged that we would also build such a facility locally. A possible alternative project suggested in the Plan, would be the provision of a multi-purpose, all-weather facility on the community site. This would cater for all sports clubs and thereby avoid duplication of services and also in the process make better use of financial resources. As the local school has no appropriate outdoor sports facilities, this would also facilitate the development of field games for the children of school-going age. The Community Council would like to hear from you if you have any suggestions regarding this proposal. Meanwhile you may read all about this and the other suggestions for local development in the 68 page ‘Kildimo Enhancement Plan’ that was launched on St. Dioma’s Day and which is currently available by e-mailing kildimocommunitycouncil@gmail.
BLAS SUMMER SCHOOL:
U.L. is the venue for the traditional music events to be held this month- just the place to send those visitors for an evening! Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill will hold them entranced on Wednesday, June 22 and another star cast will entertain on Thursday, June 30, including Mícheal O’Suilleabháin, Donal Lunny and Brendan Begley along with John Carty and friends.
BIRTHDAY BASH:
The popularity of birthday girl Marie O’Shea was well demonstrated by the large group that turned up for her birthday celebrations in Bill Chawke’s on Saturday evening, June 11. Clergy and commoners mingled to celebrate Marie’s significant landmark. While many came from Adare and Kildimo, her three sisters travelled around the world from Australia for the event. The One-Man Band provided music into the small hours for the enjoyable occasion. Congrats to Marie, to Tommy for organising the evening and to George and Mary for making it all possible.
GARDEN FETE:
The annual Adare garden fete will be held on Sunday, June 19, starting at 12.30 pm. This will be a family event with lots of opportunities for fun and games. Funds from the event will be shared by the local Alzheimers Care Centre and the Holy Trinity Church Restoration Fund.
PEOPLES ART:
Limerick Co. Co. is hosting an art exhibition in NCW Library by the Askeaton Art Group, which is coordinated by local Ringmoylan artist Maureen Barry-Fitzgerald. This group has been meeting for some years under sponsorship of Limerick Co. VEC as part of their FETAC training initiative. To date they have successfully mastered both the drawing and painting modules of this course and they have the impetus to continue towards full certification under this scheme. The success of their endeavours will be on show in the library during normal opening hours, with late opening on Tuesdays and Fridays. The title of the exhibition is ‘Fusion’ and the works reproduced on their invitational leaflet demonstrate this fusion of many different styles and interests which are fostered under their leader’s expert artistic direction. Eimear Brophy of Limerick VEC will perform the opening on Thursday, June 23 at 8.00 pm. You are assured of a welcome.
