FOR THE BIRDS AND THE BUTTERFLIES: Limerick branch of Birdwatch Ireland are visiting the Aughinish Nature Reserve on Sunday July 17 at 2.00 pm in the Visitors Carpark. From the three hides in the area you may see Waders, Teal, Widgeon and the Little Egret. You may also have a chance to view Peregrine Falcons during their nesting period. The Butterfly and Dragonfly Sanctuaries will be visited under the expert guidance of Geoff Hunt and Ger and Jane Griffin. Children may get involved in pond dipping for fish and insects. Fishing nets and wellingtons advised. Geoff is available for further information at 087 7656439. Dogs are not welcome to view birds and butterflies or splash in the Lough.
BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: The local ICA guild’s coach trip to Cashel on Wednesday July 20 is now fully booked. All travelling are requested to arrive well before the appointed time as the coach departs Kildimo at 10.00 sharp.
The ICA Arts and Crafts Exhibition ‘Le Chéile I’ will be officially opened on Tuesday July 18 in Newcastle West Library at 3pm by Federation President Anne Gabbett. A céad mile fáilte is extended to all .
The exhibition continues until Friday July 29 and may be viewed during normal library hours.
BAT WORKSHOP: If you like to know more about Daubenton’s Bats, then join other batty people at ‘De Bucket’ on Thursday, July 27 at 8.00 pm. The particular bat will be explained in detail and afterwards you may be introduced to them personally on the banks of the Maigue where they are partial to the flying insects that are found on the water. They are easily recognised by their pink noses according to Sarah Beard who is organising this event. All of this training is in advance of a study of these creatures that are specific to watery locations as distinct from their cousins in the belfry who are best avoided.
CONTEMPORARY ARTS: Askeaton invites you to savour the diverse artistic endeavours in the ‘Auld Town’ from July 13 to 23. This is the sixth event of its kind, all the work of curator Michele Horrigan who this year invites artists from Mexico and Northern Ireland along with artists from the Republic. KENRY HISTORY SOCIETY TOUR OF CAPPAGH: If you’d like to know more about the area of Cappagh, then join Jim Riordan on Sunday, July 24 at Cappagh Church. Jim will take the group to see a private church, a vault of the Knights’ of Glin, the Embury-Heck Memorial Church, an ancient holy well dedicated to St. James and some interesting old grand houses. The tour commences at 3pm
ART WORKSHOP: Cathy O’Sullivan invites you to her childrens art camp in Kildimo GAA Clubhouse. €50 per child will secure one of the last few places. The art begins on the second week of August and runs from 10 am to 2 pm. Full details from Cathy at 086 6038288.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL: A notice from the local community council alerts us to the start of the new road configuration in the village. This follows lengthy consultations between the committee members, the County Council and the National Roads Authority. Following the inevitable disruption which this work will occasion, the safety and visual aspect of the village will be enhanced.
SUMMER SOCCER CAMP: Kildimo Utd is running a Summer Soccer Camp for boys and girls between the ages of 6 – 13 from 9.15am to 2 pm in Kildimo’s Soccer Field from Monday to Thursday July 25 to 28.
