Kildimo Community Notes W/E Jan 31st 2009

The community in Kildimo/Pallaskenry were saddened to hear of the death of Mr Pat O’Connor, Camheen, Mungret and formerly of Cartown, Kildimo.Pat is deeply mourned by his wife Bridget, son Patrick, daughters Marion and Michelle, sister Mary Murphy (Singland), brother Liam (Cartown), aunt Nano Harte (Ballinacarriga), large extended family and many friends, RIP. His funeral took place on Tuesday last, January 27th, following Requiem Mass in St Oliver’Plunkett’s Church, Mungret to Kilcornan cemetery.

ANNIVERSARIES

The following, whose anniversaries occur around this time, are remembered and Masses are being arranged: Lena McCarthy, Ballycasey and Pallaskenry, Hannah Bourke, Cluain Mhuire and Clarina, and Ann O’Regan, Ballycasey (Sunday February 1st at 12.00).
The Months Mind Mass for the late Stephen Loftus Jnr, Somerville will be celebrated in St Mary’s Church, Pallaskenry on this Friday, January 30th at 7.30pm

Parish Clerk’s Collection
The annual collection in aid of our parish clerk Anne Hayes, in recognition
of her wonderful work in St Joseph’s Church, Kildimo will be taken up at both Masses next week-end (Sat January 31st and Sunday February 1st) Please show your generosity for her sterling service.


Confirmation
The sacrament of Confirmation will be administered by Bishop Dónal Murray on Friday February 6th in the parish, commencing in Pallaskenry at 10.00 and in Kildimo at 12.00.All good wishes to the participants ,their parents and teachers.


COMMUNITY LOTTO

Numbers 11, 14, 19 & 22 were drawn for a Jackpot of €3000 on January 20. Because this combination was not predicted, ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50, €30 and €20 were drawn by Mary Rogan, Michelle Mulcair and Shannon O’Neill.




RATHKEALE HISTORY SOCIETY

The next meeting of the Rathkeale Historical Society takes place in the Sheltered Housing Complex meeting room on this Friday, January 30, at 8.30 pm. This location is just over the Deel bridge going west, take first left and around the back of the Community Centre. There is a feast of history and folklore in store on the night, so there won’t be time to get bored, given the many topics in store.


THE CULT OF SAINTS


St. Blaise’s Feast day is on Tuesday next February 3 and the traditional blessing of the throats takes place following 7.00pm Mass in Kildimo and at 9.30am in Pallaskenry. Our own Saint, ‘Mary of the Gael’, namely Saint Brigid, is being remembered on her feast day on Sunday February 1. The two local venues associated with Brigid are Kilbreedy (the church of Brigid) in Kilcornan parish and Cartown in Kildimo parish. At the latter, prayers will be led by Fr. John Donworth, P.P., on Sunday, February 1, at 2.00pm.



SALESIAN COLLEGE NEWS


To celebrate the Feast of Don Bosco (Saturday, 31 January) Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, 30 January. All students are invited to the Canteen for a complementary snack after Mass and school will then finish for the day with buses departing at 1.40pm.
Supervised study will take place in the study hall during the February 2009 mid term break for 3rd and 6th year students. Study will commence on Monday, 16 to Friday, 20 February 2009 from 10am to 4pm daily. The cost for this facility is €75. Application forms available from Regina in the office.

Kate Molyneaux is to be congratulated on her excellent achievement of becoming one of the 15 national winners in the Pramerica Youth Volunteer Awards. Kate will receive a silver medallion and €500 for her marvellous work in fundraising. The overall winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner Evening in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal in March 2009 and we wish Kate well in this.

Congratulations also to Oisín McHugh on receiving his A Grade times yesterday and 4 medals at Mayfield Swimming Pool in Cork City and to Pádraig O’Carroll who won Munster Schools Handball Competition during last week. Pádraig now progresses to the All-Ireland Finals.

On Wednesday, 11 February 2009, John Lonergan, Governor of Mountjoy Prison will speak to 5th and 6th year students during the day on ‘The Reality for Students in Modern Ireland’ – ‘A Moment of Madness’. Mr. Lonergan will address parents at 8pm on this day on the topic ‘Challenges and Rewards’, a thought provoking lecture on the skills of parenting teenagers.

Green Schools Programme: Any old mobile phones can be recycled in the school in aid of Barretstown Children’s Hospital. Phones can be handed into school office. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks to the members of the Green Schools Committee.


5th Year Students’ work experience will start on Monday, March 2 for one week.

Life Saving has resumed at Salesian College Swimming Pool.



Kildimo GAA Club Development lotto draw


The Club Development LOTTO Draw took place on Monday January 19, at The Seven Sisters Pub. The numbers drawn were 10, 11, 12, 26. The jackpot of €3,400 was not won. Lucky dip winners of €50 each went to Cyril Doolin, Rienroe, Adare. Alex McCarthy, Cloonagalleen. Rory O’Brien, Knockroe. P. O’Donoghue, C/O Denis O’Brien. Next weeks draw will be held on Monday 26th January at 8.30pm with a jackpot of €3,600 in the Dromore Inn.

Players meeting
A players meeting will be held on this Friday January 30 in Kildimo National School at 8.30 pm. All intermediate, junior, U21 and minors hurlers are expected to attend where new team manager and coach Finbarr McCarthy (Ahane) will lay out plans for the year.

Killulta Gaels News
Medal presentation took place on Saturday last January 24, at Clancy’s, Pallaskenry to the successful U21 and Minor teams. The U21 footballers were city champions while the minors were city football and city/east hurling champions.



BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE

Members are reminded of the next guild meeting which be held on Wed February 4, commencing at the earlier time of 7.30pm at ‘Seven Sisters’Pub, Old Kildimo.
‘Card Making’ using recycled materials with Eileen O’Byrne will follow this meeting at 8.30pm This is an open meeting, all welcome. Admission €5(in aid of Rescue Fund)
