TABLE QUIZ

Just the thing following weeks of intellectual torpor -- a Quiz! This time the beneficiary of the event is the Hope Foundation, whose main concern is the starving orphans of Calcutta. Friday January 29 is the date and the joust begins at 9.00 pm. ‘De Bucket’Ferrybridge is the venue.

WHO’S FOR €4,400?

The New Year’s series of Community Lotto offers €4,400 for a mere €2 outlay. On January 12, the Numbers drawn were 7, 14, 20 & 22. Because no punter predicted this combination, Lucky Dips of €20 each were drawn by S. Warner, Brendan Meskell, Geraldine Costello, Josephine O’Dea and Alison Griffin.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

Among the many events deferred due to the inclement weather is the annual senior citizens dinner and party. However an assurance has been given that this social outing will be rearranged and all will be notified of the new date.

TALENT WANTED

‘De Bucket’ will be hosting the local round of a National Talent Competition sponsored by the Vintners Federation of Ireland at a date to be announced soon. The name of this new talent show is ‘Stars in our Bars’. It is sponsored by Smithwicks, with €50,000 in prizes. You’ll have time to brush up your act and make good use of that karaoke machine you got for Christmas. Artists will not be confined to singing. Jugglers, hip-hop, sean nós dancers, conjurers, seanachaí, sword swallowers and magicians are only some of the acts solicited. Mary O’Dea will be on hand during the day to audition for the event. It could be the beginning of a whole new career for you- and maybe for Mary.

CANCER CONCERN

Joan O’Sullivan, one of the volunteers of the West Limerick Cancer Concern Group, announces the Fourth Annual Valentines night in aid of Mid Western Cancer Foundation and Milford Hospice. The evening begins with music in the Lobby of the Woodlands Adare at 7.30 pm on Friday, February 12, followed by a four course meal during which a cheque will be presented to Professor Gupta. The Valentines Party follows with dancing to the ‘Deerhunters’ and a Disco to follow by Brian O’Grady. Tickets at €35 may be booked by contacting Joan at 069 82116/086 1625960. All funds for the above causes goes towards the alleviation of cancer sufferers in the region. Among the many services on offer are both a Men’s and a Women’s Support Group which holds meetings on the second and the third Wednesdays of each month. Details from 061 485163.

KILDIMO MOVED!

Limerick Co. Co. has moved us! For the last fifteen years the area was under the Rathkeale Area Office in regard to roads and services but from January 2010 at a stroke of a Council pen, we are now under the Croom Area Office. A Lamb called Dermot is the engineer in Croom to whom we will now appeal for filling for our potholes, water for our taps and all the other council services. But as from the last local election for Councillors to represent our concerns, Patrick C. Fitzgerald is still batting for us and he it is who lets us know of these changes. P.C., M.C.C., may be contacted at 061 400999 during working hours.
