Ms Mary O’Rourke RIP, Clooncaura, Kildimo, Co Limerick

The death of Mary O’Rourke, Clooncaura, Kildimo, came as a great shock to all who knew her in Kildimo and beyond. After a short illness, Mary passed away in Milford Care Centre on December 18, 2009. She will be sadly missed by her partner Harry, her sisters Margaret in Faha and Noreen Mythen in Coolgreany, Co. Wicklow.

The late Mary was born to Brigid (Bride) nee, Madigan and Jimmy in the idyllic thatched homestead in Clooncaura on the edge of Bleach Lough. Her early schooling was in the local National School, followed by secondary education at St. Mary’s, Askeaton and then on to commercial training at the High School, Limerick.

From High School, Mary took up the only employment in which she spent all her working life in Roches Stores- presently Debenhams. In this environment she developed her enduring love of fashion. Her social life was pursued amongst her workmates who enjoyed foreign travel and who induced her to join the Cecilian Musical Society, where she enjoyed singing for many years. When she met her partner Harry in 1990, her business acumen was put to good use in the running of his pub and nightclub in Kanturk for many years. When Harry settled into Clooncaura in 1996, they both developed their love of horse breeding for the National Hunt and for Show jumping. Her social life with Harry was largely centered in attending race meetings in Galway, Listowel and many Point-to-Point fixtures. It was at one of these events in Athlacca, that they scored a big success by winning the ‘Mares Maiden Hurdle’, with their progeny ‘Misbucami’.

Mary’s Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Kildimo on Sunday December 20 2009, following which her remains were interred in the local graveyard. The sympathy of the community is extended to Harry and her sisters and extended family on this untimely death.

Ní imithe uainn ach imithe rómhainn.
