90 years young Sr Brigid (Auntie Peggy's) 90th Birthday Party Sun Aug 1 2010

LOCAL BEREAVEMENT


The death took place recently of Mrs. Margaret O’Dwyer (nee Collins) of Shanpallas and formerly of Vermont, Clarina. Margaret, who was predeceased by her husband John and son Patrick ,is mourned by her sons John and Gerard and daughters Helen, Pauline, Bridget, Christina, Patricia and Margaret and her extended family, neighbours and friends. Her removal took place to St. Mary’s Church Pallaskenry on Saturday August 7. Internment followed Requiem Mass at 12.30 pm on Sunday to Kilcornan Cemetery.

COMMUNITY BARBEQUE WITH MUSIC





September 3 should be marked in your social calendar for the local Community Council invites you to their Barbeque and Tommy McCauley. Tommy is on the microphone, not on the barbeque! This is a fundraiser for the work of the Council and tickets are €10. Be at ‘De Bucket’ at 8.00 pm for ‘O’Dea’ specials and sing-a-long with Tommy. Be a friend to the Community Council by your support and bring a friend to join in the fun.





AFC EVENTS





A big ‘thank you’ to all who made t he BBQ at Slattery’s such a worthwhile event, especially to host Martin Hogan and Darren and his team for running the event. The next date in Kildimo Soccer Club’s social calendar is Friday August 27, when the Poker Classic is held at the Beer Garden. Your support for such events is vital towards the running of Club activities. See you there!





BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION





Sister Brigid O’Shaughnessy, formerly of Bolane and presently of Presentation Sisters Matlock, Derbyshire in England, has clocked up fourscore and ten! The event was marked by her family and friends with a celebratory liturgy in Copswood College church which was conducted by her nephew Fr. Gerard O’Shaughnessy of the Salesian brotherhood, assisted by Fr. Martin Loftus, Rector and Fr. Michael Murphy of Kilcornan and Nigeria. Following the liturgy, the party moved to ‘De Bucket’ where a buffet was prepared, followed by Josephine’s unique Apple tart, before Sr. Brigid cut her birthday cake and thanked all for their presence- and presents!



Sr Brigid has spent most of her Presentation life in the UK .However An annual to her native Kildimo and the reading of the Limerick Leader ,which she receives on mail order, her keeps in touch with her many family members and friends in ireland.









HERITAGE WEEK





The walking tour of Pallaskenry begins at the Carpark Copswood College at 3.00 pm on Sunday, August 22. Derek Cahill will begin the proceedings by outlining the Caulfield history at their house and he will then lead the group to visit the local graveyard in Killurach and give some thought to the people who rest near the site of the old Protestant Church. The tour continues with some other local historians outlining the historical events that have formed Pallaskenry, the capital town of the Barony of Kenry. You will hear of riots and apparitions, famous authors who lived there, past industries located there, famed preachers who visited and lots more. SHOWJUMPING SUCCESS





The sporting annals of Kildimo will proudly mark the achievements of local man Paul O’Shea during the Horse Show of 2010. In what was described as a ‘sensational double’, he blazed his way through the Speed Derby to secure the prize money of €21,000. His second success in the Burlington Hotel Six Bar brought the added bonus of beating an Olympic Gold Medallist Laura Kraut and World No 2 Pius Schwizer. Paul is shortly off to the US to join a prestigious trainer and stable in what must mark a final step on his way to the top.



Bantracht Na Tuaithe

The members of The Killulta ICA painters appreciate the support of their colleagues,friends and neighbours at the Federation Centenary Art Exhibition ‘Comóradh Céad Bliain’ in the County Library, Dooradoyle.The exhibition continues for the next few weeks and all shoppers to ‘The Crescent’are invited to call in and view.

RECENT WEDDING







The happy occasion of Ruth Hayes nuptials took place in a civil ceremony on Friday, July 6 in the company of family and friends. Frank Ryan, formerly of Rhebogue was the lucky groom, attended by his brother David. Sharon Dunworth, sister of the bride was also witness. The Greenhills Hotel was the venue for the reception that followed. Ruth will resume her post as Nursing Tutor at UL following the honeymoon and summer holidays. Frank also has an interest in UL, but in a student role where he has been pursuing his studies in law. The newly-weds will be at home to visitors in their home at Seven Oaks off Bengal Terrace.





GAA NEWS





Kildimo Development Dray on Monday August 2 drew numbers 8,9,26 & 27 for a Jackpot of €10,200 which no punter predicted. Lucky Dips were won by Saorise Deely, Pallaskenry; Rory O’Brien, Knockroe; Emma Sexton, Old Kildimo and Val Hogan, c/o Rose McKeogh.



A heroic effort by Killulta Gaels against Monaleen, failed to secure the honours in spite of Robert McKeogh’s 1-3, Danny Maher 0-2, Ronan Liston 0-1, Martin Noonan 0-1 and Johnny Nash’s 0-1.



The U 16 Footballers had a convincing win over Naomh Bríd in the County Quarter Final with a final score of 7-22 to 3-2. Kildimo got back to winning ways in the city junior B hurling championship on Sunday with a well merited win over a determined Abbey Sarsfields in Kildimo with Eamon Phelan as referee with a final score of 1-13 to 1-9. By virtue of this win we have now qualified for a semi final place with one match to play. This match saw the introduction to adult hurling for Daniel Maher and Niall O’Brien both acquitting themselves well Daniel scoring three points from play while Niall was alert to a short free and scored our only goal. Mike Barry also played his first game for us winning a few valuable frees which were converted by Robert McKeogh. We lead at the break 0-5 to 0-3.
