RECENTLY DECEASED






The death took place recently in Cahermoyle Nursing Home of Jackie Hogan of Cartown.Sympathy is extended to his brother Michael and sister, extended family and other relatives and friends.



At his funeral mass, Fr. John Donworth, P.P. paid tribute to the way Jackie had dealt with the adversities of health which dogged his life and how he had adapted to the changes that these forced upon him. Following the death of Jackie’s mother, he assumed control of the household and was an able cook, as well as producing much of the vegetables for the table. His remains reposed at Downey’s Funeral Home Pallaskenry on Wednesday, July 28 and the funeral took place to Castletown cemetery following Requiem Mass on the following Thursday.









HERITAGE WEEK





The programme for the annual ‘Heritage Week’ is available from tourist offices and libraries. Co. Limerick is well represented with a variety of heritage events on offer during the week from August 21-29. Particular to our area are the two events organised by the ‘Kenry Historical Society’. On the first Sunday of Heritage Week,Sunday August 22 there will be a walking tour of Pallaskenry, beginning at the car park of Copswood College at 3.00 pm. On the following Sunday August 29 at the same time, Michael Costello will lead a walk and talk centered on the Hollypark estate, Kilcornan, meeting at the ‘Grand Gates’ entrance to Hollypark. All events are free and wheelchair friendly.





RECENT WEDDING





Congratulations to the O’Shaughnessy family of Bolane on the recent marriage of Louise Burke, of Clarina , daughter of Mary (nee O’Shaughnessy) and Donie, The wedding was celebrated by Louise’s cousin Fr. Gerard O’Shaughnessy, S.D.B. and Fr O’Connor PP of Ballybrown in her parish church on Friday, July 30. Noel Barron of Crecora was the Groom and son of the late Brigid and Seán. The Chief Bridesmaid was Caroline Morrissey, cousin of the bride, assisted by her Maids Karen Burke and Gillian Curtin. Standing with Noel were his friends Brendan Lenihan, Sean O’Donovan and Dermot Hayes. Molly Morrissey and Shauna Barron were the charming Flower girls. Ruth Burke and Steven Kiely proclaimed the Readings, while the Prayers of the Faithful were led by John Barron, John Buckley, Donnagh Buckley and Blathnaid Kiely. The offerings were presented by Mary, mother of the Bride and by Kathy, the Groom’s sister. Music and Vocals were rendered by Catherine Clohessy and Marie Keane. The liturgy concluded with an appropriate reflection, read by Jennifer Nash. The sun shone on the red carpet for the arrival of the newly-weds to Bunratty Castle Hotel to join their guests for a very enjoyable reception and party. Italy is the chosen destination for the honeymoon, following which Louise and Noel will resume life in Annacotty with the best wishes of their respective families and friends.



Bantracht Na Tuaithe





The work of twelve members of The Killulta ICA painters are currently hanging in the Federation Centenary Art Exhibition ‘Comóradh Céad Bliain’ in the County Library, Dooradoyle.The official opening by National ICA President Anne Maria Dennison on Wednesday was attended by many members and friends from around the county and will continue to the end of the month.
