COMMUNITY MEETING

Be sure to set aside Thursday December 16 for the next meeting of the local Community Council.  This is a follow-on to the previous consultative meeting, the findings of which will be presented by O’Leary and Associates in a draft plan for the village and environs.  It is important that the community assess this plan, which may impact on all our lives into the future.

‘LIGHT UP A MEMORY’
Milford Hospice are conducting a novel fundraising event on Sunday, December 17 at 6.00 pm.  The event is centered upon lighting up a Christmas tree with sparkling lights in honour of those who have died.  Lights may be sponsored for €5 in memory of special friends and a memorial card will also be dedicated to their honour. Proceeds will go towards the sterling work of the Milford Care Centre.

COMMUNITY LOTTO JACKPOT €7,000 Plus.
Fancy €7,400 to ease your financial burden or help your Christmas shopping? A €2 investment in our own Community Lotto, could do just  that.   The numbers drawn on November 30 were 1, 15, 24 & 25.  Because no member of the draw predicted this combination, ‘Lucky Dips’ were drawn for €20 each.  Prizewinners were Louise Byrnes, Court; Rory O’Brolcháin, Ballycasey; Peadar Dunne, Ballyvareen; Noel Dillon, Croom and John Meade, Old Kildimo.

ADARE MANOR GOLF CLUB BOOK LAUNCH
On the evening of Saturday, November 27, the clubhouse at the Adare Manor Golf Club hosted the launch of Br. John Feheney’s latest historical work, ‘Adare and the Barony of Kenry Biographical Dictionary’.  This is a companion volume to his earlier work covering Askeaton and Iverus.  As usual for any event involving Br. John, a large following were in attendance from Ballysteen, Kenry, Adare and elsewhere.  Two stalwarts of local  history, namely Tony Browne and his friend Tom Donovan did the honours in introducing and launching the book.  Br. John describes his latest volume as “work in progress’ to be added to in later editions.  Not surprisingly in two hundred pages of packed historical details, the author expects that errors and omissions may be inevitable, for which he apologises in advance in the ‘Introduction’.  Nevertheless, as Tom Donovan pointed out in launching the book, there is a wealth within its pages of useful historical data on many interesting persons who trod the stage of life in the areas covered by the biographical dictionary and for which we should be thankful to the author for letting us share in his voluminous researches.
