BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Three score years and ten was in Biblical times regarded as the span of life, but Peggy Gleeson of Ballynacarriga celebrated four score years recently with a party for her family and friends at the Woodlands, Adare on Saturday, January 8.  To the music of Daniel O’Connell, the party wined and dined in her honour.  Among the artists who contributed vocal numbers on the night was Alan Fitzgerald of Ballynacarriga who honoured Peggy with two songs and her special friend ‘Mr Personality’ Frank Nash, wizard with the boning knife.  Representing the O’Shaughnessy clan was their own troubadour from Kilcornan, Billy, never standing back when it comes to delivering his party piece. Also enjoying the night was Sonny who never left the dance floor, except to partake of the lavish combustibles provided.  Peggy’s longstanding teacher friend from his days in Pallaskenry National School and now living in the U.S., namely Frank Woulfe, paid his own tribute to the birthday girl with flowers from across the sea. The birthday cake was enjoyed by all who look forward to Peggy’s next bash.  Congratulations Peggy, many more happy and healthy birthdays to you from your legion of friends.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION?
If education is on the list of life-changing resolutions, then the Crescent College ‘Adult Education Programme’, has something for you.  From Monday to Thursday evenings a wide range of courses are available.  For example, there’s a ‘Cheats Cookery Class’ (Thursdays).  You do not have to be a cheat before enrolling!  If you’re pregnant, there’s something for you in restful yoga and a separate course for stressful fathers.  If you’ve always hankered to knit or play the tin whistle, to learn Portuguese French or Spanish, to carve wood or groom the dog, to sew or keep bees, to dig the garden or understand the stockmarket, then take thyself to the college or ring 061 302354 or e-mail nightclassesccc@eircom.net

‘CURA’ COLLECTS
Come prepared to local Masses this weekend, as collections will be made for Cura.  This service is offered by the Irish Bishops Conference and is a voluntary organisation.  It is largely dedicated to assisting those involved in crisis pregnancy, offering counselling and practical help.  There are many centres nationwide offering ‘walk-in’ help, illustrating their catchphrase that ‘Cura Cares’.  You may also access the service through  their Lo-call number at 1850 62 26 26.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Brothers of Charity, Bawnmore, are involved in the care of over four hundred persons.  Needless to say the wide range of their services demand a similar range of workers.  While professional services are offered by the Brothers, previous training is not a requirement of volunteers.  Training will be given and work allocated by consultation with the volunteer.  If you think you could give a little of your time to this worthwhile work, Sean Gallagher at 087 9817956 or by e-mail at seangallagher@limerick.brothersofcharity.ie., would like to  hear from you.
