Tribute to JOHN WATTS, BALLYNACARRIGA, KILDIMO. 28/5/1956 – 19/09/2011

The late John Watts was born in Croom Hospital on May 28 1956, to parents Trevor and Teresa (nee O’Neill).  He was reared at the home of his grandparents Michael and Catherine O’Neill in Ballynacarriga. Early education took place in the local school in Ballynacarriga, now a private residence.  He continued his secondary education at Shanagolden Technical School.  Thirty two years of his working life was spent in Wyeth’s Askeaton where he participated in all their sponsored charitable events, retiring in May 2010.  Much of his time since retirement was spent in ensuring his family home was refurbished for the comfort of his brother David whose future security was a great concern of his. During life he loved outdoor pursuits and regularly followed the hunt as well as playing sports, especially soccer.  He was a founder member of the local fishing club at Bleach Lough.  Irish music was a big interest of his and his sense of rhythm was expressed on the bohrán and in his sean nós dancing.  As John was a bachelor all his life, he was eligible for participation in the Ballybunion Bachelor Awards Festival and in 1985 he was chosen to represent County Limerick at the seaside festival.  He received the devastating news of his terminal illness in June with resignation and with determination to fight on courageously and without complaint.  His illness eventually overcame him on September 19, in the Regional Hospital Limerick.  John’s final journey took place to Kilcornan graveyard following Requiem Mass in the Church of St. John the Baptist in Pallaskenry.  His memory will live on and he will be sadly missed by his brother David, his Aunts Carmel, Ita and Mary, along with his many cousins and friends.
May he rest in peace.
