COMHBHRÓN:  The funeral Mass for the late John Cahill was celebrated by his neighbour Canon John O’Shea on Monday, February 13, one day in advance of his sixty-third birthday.  His popularity was attested by the large congregation who supported his family on his last journey.  Sympathy is extended to his sons Michael and Donal ,his daughters Catríona, Bríd, Maireád and Siobhán, his sisters and a large extended family.
John’s remains were interred in Kildimo graveyard with his late wife Rita who
pre deceased him less than a year ago.

PANCAKES FOR LOURDES:  A fundraiser to send deserving pilgrims to Lourdes will take place on Tuesday February 21, traditional ‘pancake day’.  This takes place at ‘The Seven Sisters’ in Old Kildimo from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm and your continued support is solicited.

PARTY TIME:  The annual senior citizens party is now scheduled for Sunday February 26.  Christmas over-indulgence now long forgotten, this event comes at an appropriate time and the organising committee are issuing an invitation to all seniors to attend.  Seating will take place from 2.00 pm and following your welcoming drink, a full meal will follow.  As usual the ever-popular Donie Walsh will entertain into the late evening and your friends can come and join in the dancing.  If you have any problems with transport, contact Peter at 087 7600928 or any member of the committee.

NATIONAL SCHOOL:  Following exhaustive interviewing, the best candidate has been selected to follow in the footsteps of the outgoing Headmistress Olive Fitzgerald.  The new Head has been on the staff of the school for many years and the Chairman of the present School Management Board is happy with the new appointee who takes up office in March.

THE DRINK:  According to a national survey on alcohol consumption, the average person consumes one bottle of vodka weekly.  This statistic obviously also applies to Kildimo.  Another survey has been scientifically conducted in North Kildimo among a housing group comprising of five households and ten adults living there.  All ten of these adults denied any consumption of vodka.  It obviously follows that there are ten persons in Kildimo who consume two bottles of vodka weekly which constitutes a serious threat to their health, hence this warning.  Judging by this survey it is likely also that these ten persons live on the south side of Kildimo.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT:  With the start of the new University semester, the Kemmy business students have begun their work on studying the social and economic strengths and weaknesses of Kildimo and its environs.  They will bring a refreshingly new and objective approach to our local environs where those of us who are in constant contact with may not always recognise such strengths and indeed weaknesses.  It is likely following their initial study of our records that they will be seen on the ground studying the environment at first hand.  For this latter phase, you are likely to come into contact with them as they monitor local opinions in regard to our future development.

BIRDWATCHING:  Limerick Branch of Birdwatch Ireland is hosting an outing to O’Callaghan Strand on Sunday 19 FebruaryMeet at St Michael's Rowing Club at 10 am, where free parking is available. Among the resident bird population, are likely to be seen some migrant species such as Icelandic Gull, Ring Billed Gull, and perhaps a revisit from the Black Swans.  Wear warm dark coloured clothing and bring binoculars/telescope. The group will walk alongside the river, depending on tides, so comfortable shoes would be a good idea. Children accompanied by adults and non-members are welcome. No dogs please. Leaders; James Hayes (0852374749) and Clodagh Glasgow (0876355691)
