OUR COMMUNITY REMEMBERS:  Past members of the community, namely Mary Agnes O’Shea, James O’Shea and Dick Liston were commemorated in the noon Mass on Sunday, February 26.  On Sunday March 4, John & Maureen Sheahan and Mary & Sylvia McCauley will be remembered at 12.00 o’clock Mass.
COPSWOOD GAELS  RFC:  The  teams played an away U9 blitz in Old Crescent this weekend with some tough games being played. The first result was Old Crescent 10 Copsewood Gaels 30, was one which we just edged in the forward play allowing
us to get off to a flyer with two tries from L. Guinane and one from M. Southgate that saw us lead at half time before a hat-trick of tries from A. O'Donovan sealed the deal.
The second game resulted in Y. Munster 20 Copswood Gaels 10.  A very well drilled Munsters side kept us at bay all over the park and they lead 20-0
at half time. A big rally by our lads saw us even things out up front and two tries from C. Downes brought us back into this game. Excellent defensive work by Munsters saw them over the finish line. The result of the final game was NCW 0, Copsewood Gaels 0.  This was by far the game of the day with both sides playing some very good rugby with both defences being the winners.   Our team consisted of L. Guinane, M. Southgate, E. Mulvahill, S. Kelly, T. K. Kiely, A. O'Donovan, A. Collins, D. Fitzgerald, E. McLoughlin,
C. Downes, B. Fleming, C. Bourke and N. Quinn.  Training continues every Sunday morning at 10.00 am and we’re all looking forward to our fundraising ‘You’re a Star’ night at Clancy’s Bar, Pallaskenry on March 10.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT:  On Wednesday February 29, the business students from U.L’s Kemmy Business School, made themselves available to members of the Kildimo Community Council.  On that afternoon at ‘De Bucket’, they outlined some of their finding to date in their study of the positive assets of our community and its infrastructure.

GAA LOTTO:  On February 20, numbers 8, 9, 16 & 22 were drawn for a Jackpot of €20.000.  No member predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 each were won by Mary O’Brien, Patrickswell; Joseph Lynch, Ennis; Brian Fitzgibbon, Irish Wire and Jim Carmody, Knockroe.

KILDIMO ON THE RADIO:  The development of our area was given airtime on John Prendergast’s morning show on Saturday February 25.  Our indefatigable advocate from upriver in Croom, namely P.C. Fitzgerald, mentioned amongst his Maigueside concerns his constant promotion of Kildimo’s development as member of Limerick County Council’s elected representatives.  His advocacy of our local concerns has also attracted the support of other elected Councillors and it has to be recorded that all this renewed promotion of the village and its environs, is becoming more evident day by day.

PENITENCE IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL:  Preparation, planning and training is in train for the ‘Penitential Walk’, which Fr. John will lead from ‘The Seven Sisters’ in Old Kildimo on Saturday, March 10.  Pilgrims like those who set out in the ‘Canterbury Tales’  may “dream of setting foot in the far-off places” of Kilbreedy as they travel westwards and pay their rounds at the stations along the way.  Like Chaucer’s motley pious of pilgrims, they too may tell their edifying tales along the way, all under the godly direction of the spiritual leader.  Good walking gear and rain wear is a prudent necessity and as fasting is not included, fluid is advised to stave off dehydration.

OLD TYME DANCING:  The Listowel Arms Hotel is the place to be for a night of dancing on Friday, March 2.  Two different bands will perform, starting at 9.00 pm.  For €10 you’ll have a night of dancing and free draws thrown in.

SALESIAN COLLEGE NEWS:  The path to this year’s U18½ Hurling Munster Final began in late September with a big win over Tralee CBS.  They then progressed to the second round where they encountered a stiff test from Mitchelstown but ended up on the right side of the result.  The Munster Quarter Final was contested in Ballingarry against John the Baptist School, Hospital in mid-November.  Again, this Copswood Secondary College Team worked hard to achieve a deserved semi-final spot against Borrisoleigh.  This was a good game. Borrisoleigh were a very competitive team and Salesian Secondary College had to be at their best to beat them. This is Copsewood’s first Munster Final since 1962 and they know they will have to put in a big performance to win it.  The final is set for Saturday March 3, commencing at 2.30 pm in Tipperary Town against Kilmacthomas.
