WALKING THE BANKS:  A meeting was held recently in De Bucket to consider the possibility of opening a walk along the Maigue bank from the Ferry Bridge to Ringmoylan Quay.  Representatives from both Kildimo and Pallaskenry attended along with local business interests and Deirdre Lewis on behalf of West Limerick Resources who is a consultant with SLR Global environmental solutions.  The latter has an intimate knowledge of the planning and management of walking trails and she gave freely of such knowledge in relation to the above possibility.  She was very positive that such an enterprise would greatly enhance the visitor possibilities to this area and that eventually the trail might be developed southwards to link up with the existing riverbank walk in Adare.  Preliminary walks will survey the possibility and if this proves positive, landowners adjacent to the bank will be approached with a view to gaining their necessary compliance with the plan.  Irish walking trails are a developing tourist and recreational phenomenon and a glance in the direction of Ballyhoura will convince of the possible value of such an amenity locally.
