Kildimo Community Notes W/E September 8 2012

ANNIVERSARIES:  Past members of our parish who are remembered in church services include James, Michael and Ellen Sheehan, Christopher Walsh and Catherine and Patrick Hickey.


TIDY TOWNS:  You are sure to have noticed the dedicated workers who in all weathers comb our hedgerows and gutters for the detritus of others and who plant and weed for the good of the community.  The good work of the Tidy Towns Committee will be made known in the announcements on Monday September 10, on line at www.tidytowns.ie.  On the following eveningTuesday September 11 at 8.00 pm in the back room of the Seven Sisters, the results will be considered and future planning based on this ‘think-in’.  The plans for the beautification of Slattery’s corner will also be discussed and you are invited to be part of this meeting and participate in the work of the gallant band of enthusiasts.



A FIRST AT THE LIMERICK SHOW:  Young five year old Tess Spratt of Dromore ,Kildimo has carried off First Prize in the Novice Lead Rein competition recently.  Only one year in the saddle, this young lady is sowing early seeds for a career on horseback.  Tess is named after her grand aunt, the late Tess Watts of Kilmacat and is thus a great grand daughter of Kit O’Neill of the same address.  The young horsewoman begins her education this year in Kildimo National School with the congratulations and best wishes from her family and friends


COMMUNITY COUNCIL MATTERS: The AGM of the Community Council is arranged for Wednesday September 19 in the GAA Clubhouse at 8.00 pm.  New nominees to the Council will be inducted on Wednesday September 5.  The very popular annual Barbeque will take place at the end of the month at the Bucket .Tickets are available from any Council member or from the Hon Sec Mary Conway. A good night is assured

COFFEE FOR CARI:  In collaboration with the ‘95 Stop Tour’, a local fundraiser for the Cari foundation and the Children’s Ark at the Regional Hospital Dooradoyle, will take place at Slattery’s on the morning of Wed September 19.  Serious funds were raised in recent years by the initiative from local radio and this year the radio is getting behind local events such as the coffee morning.  Local sponsors will give their support and the public will show their appreciation by attending.  Should you not be available on the morning, there is a donation facility on the Live 95 website where you can post your support.

SALESIAN COLLEGE NEWS:  The Parents Association of the College are organising a ‘Bosco Tea Party’ at the College on October 5 next.  This is to provide funds for the many activities that are not adequately covered by state funding.  Tables of eight persons cost €100 and you have complete freedom in supplying your own food and drink and the necessary means to enjoy it, tables and chairs only supplied on the night.  Music of the Country and Western kind will enhance your enjoyment on the night and determine the casual dress code.  Advance booking is necessary by contacting any of the following, namely, Bernard Gloster  087-9532020, Catherine Fitzgerald 086-1087679, Carmel McAvinue 086-6024930, Armelle Mangan 087-2379130, Iolanda Ryan 087-9308165, Eileen O’Neill 087-6843751 or the school office on 061 393105. 


ARTS ‘N CRAFTS:  Enrolment continues for Cathy O’Sullivan’s arts and crafts classes at the GAA Clubhouse.  These very popular classes begin on September 13 and 14 and further details may be had from the teacher at 086 6038288.



BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: An upcoming event to link to 'World Parks Day' entitled 'Dancing at the Crossroads' will take place on Sunday the 16th September from 3pm to 6pm.
The location is Phoenix Park area including Farmleigh.This is a free event and will include : traditional music,set dancing,a pageant 'The Goddess Bridget ', a food village, traditional skills,Irish wolf hounds, a game of hurling and football and much more.
A céad míle fáilte is extended to all ICA members who would like to come on board, to display crafts or join in the set dancingetc.

DIAMOND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY:  Congratulations are extended to Eileen and Mícheal O’Brien of Ballyculhane on celebrating sixty fruitful years together.  The jubilarians celebrated with a party at home with their family.  Eileen is presently a resident at Thorp’s Nursing Home in Clarina.


GAA LOTTO:  The new Jackpot is now €3.600 and the numbers drawn on Monday August 27 were 6, 7, 13 & 28.  As no member predicted this combination, €50 Lucky Dips were drawn by Ann & Billy Chawke, Philip Timmins, Dermot  O’Callaghan and Brian O’Donoghue.



RUN FOR ADAPT:  The refuge for women and families suffering abuse, situated in Rosbrien, is looking for participants in the October Women’s Mini Marathon to run in aid of their services.  The facility provides safe refuge to women and their children 24 hours, 365 days a year and includes fourteen self-contained apartments.  Other services include 24 hour Freephone helpline 1 800 200 504; one-to-one support for women in their local area and regular Outreach services in Kilmallock, Newcastle West and Limerick; Court Accompaniment; Advocacy; Child and Youth Services. With your support this valuable service can continue to help abuse victims.
