Kildimo Community Notes W/E December 8 2012

ANNIVERSARIES:  The late Thomas Stokes was remembered in Mass on Sunday December 2, while at next weekend Masses Joan Whitwell will be commemorated on Saturday and Jack & Margaret Madigan will have Mass in their honour on Sunday.

BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Well done to the local ICA table quiz team who did Kildimo proud at the federation finals recently. Competition was keen but with Mary O’Rourke, Kathleen Coughlan, Maeve Bradley and Linda Smyth on board they achieved a very commendable third place against the ladies from Glin.  Best of luck to the winning team as the progress to the national Finals at An Grianán.  The book club will convene for lunch at 1pm on Tuesday next December 4 in ‘De Bucket’ Pub, Ferrybridge, followed by a literary discussion. On the following night Wed December 5 the next guild meeting will take place in Seven Sisters Pub, Old Kildimo commencing at 8.15pm.

MILFORD SHINES THE LIGHT:  The role of the Hospice needs no advertising, but its financial support is a necessity.  On Sunday December 9, you are invited to the illumination of their tree which will sparkle with the memories of past friends.  You may sponsor a light for €5 in memory of a dear one for which you will receive a Memory Card and enrolment in their Memory Book.  The fundraising department is open during office hours on 061 485859/485860 or on www.milfordcarecentre.ie.

COPSWOOD GAELS RFC:  Great success continues at Mini level with the U 11’s doing well at Coonagh.  The team were Emily O’Mahony, Ned Quinn, Thomas K Kiely, Eimear Hickey, Emily Butler, Aaron O’Donovan, Ben Fleming, Ellen Kingston, Nicole Griffin, Sean O’Mahony, Geoffrey Broderick, Rory Cullen and Daniel Fitzgerald.  The Captains Emily Butler, Ellen Kingston and Nicole Griffin lead by example and the team put in a gritty display against Munsters with great ball handling from Ned Quinn, Sean O’Mahony and Emily O’Mahony and superb tackling from Eimear Hickey, Rory Cullen and Ben Fleming.  Unfortunately time was the winner on behalf of the opposition.  A brilliant team display against Shannon resulted in a scoreline of 10 to 5 in our favour, while against Ballina/Killaloe the bad weather resulted in a drawn game.  Liam O’Mahony played a blinder from the sideline and the support from parents and friends were a valuable asset as always.

‘A GIANT STEP FOR MAN’:  Going where no man had gone before and striking a blow for men’s equality, he has fearlessly and singularly breached barriers hitherto steadfastly held by the sisterhood.  And all of this Pat Moran has achieved bloodlessly and with one flourish of his sable brush.  Having failed to breach the stalwart ranks of the ICA, he has now maculated the ‘Ladies Painting Group’ and sent shock waves through the sisterhood worldwide.   An honorary freeman of his native city of Galway is expected to follow while the art world waits expectantly for what can only be historical painterly creations that will be eagerly sought by serious collectors.  It may have begun in Kildimo Library, but the end is likely in the Tate Modern. The sisters have been silenced!  Thanks Pat.

GAA LOTTO:  The new Jackpot is now €4,900 and the numbers drawn on November 26 were 7, 21, 22 & 23 which were not chosen by any punter.   As a consequence, €50 Lucky Dips of €50 were drawn by Billy O’Donoghue, Ml. Corrigan, Tony Hayes and Laurence O’Donnell.
