GATHERING: The Kilcornan ‘Platform Dancing Committee’ has chosen Sunday September 1 for the next session outside the gates of Curragh Chase, to be held between 3.00 and 6.00 pm. As usual Pat O’Connell will be calling the dances and this year to the very popular musician Michael Sexton. The opportunity to involve local balladeers and artists will be given and all for free! Where would you get it?
GAA LOTTO: This popular weekly continues at different locations on Monday evenings. The draw on July 15 for a Jackpot of €4,200 was not won as no member predicted the winning combination of 2, 6, 7 & 19. Lucky Dips of €50 were drawn by Margaret O’Donoghue, Shirley Fitzgerald, Frances Loftus & Sarah Walsh.
CÉILÍ: Knockaderry Resource Centre have engaged the popular ‘Striolan Céilí Band’ for their fundraising night on August 2. Dancing begins at 9.30 with a break for tea and all the funds go towards the Irish Cancer Society.
SUMMER ART CAMP: Cathy O’Sullivan is still taking reservations for her ‘Art Camp’ on the first weekend in August. The same venue in the GAA Clubhouse will operate and all age groups of children will be catered for and materials supplied. Contact Cathy on 086 6038288 for enquiries and bookings.

KNOCKFIERNA BECONS: The mountain of the Fianna continues to exert its mythical pull and if you’d like to join an organised walk on Sunday July 28 the group will leave the Rambling House on the hill at 7.30 pm. Along the way hear stories of times past when the area was populated prior to the famine and see the remnants of their habitations. Commemorative stones have been erected to honour Mannix Joyce of Bruree, a man who has contributed enormously to the promotion of local history through his long-running column in the ‘Limerick Leader’ and through a large body of literature on the same subject.
LOCAL GATHERING: ‘Karisma’ will get the gathering show on the road in August with the opening gig on Friday August 16 with their music. Another big attraction during the weekend will be the return visit of Mick Hanly for the concluding concert at the Seven Sisters. Tickets are on sale on the premises for €10 and Milford Hospice will benefit from your presence. All the other participants are busy setting out their stalls and Mary Conway and the Community Council team are open to consultation at 087 6521806 for any added events that might be put on the programme.
