KILDIMO COMMUNITY NOTES W/E May 8 2010

WORLD SKETCHING DAY

Due to the rapid and enthusiastic take-up of places on the Sketching and Drawing Day, all places have now been filled.  Participation is free, thanks to the generosity of the two guiding artists.  The group will work out of doors and sketchers will come with their own A 3 Sketch Pad of good cartridge paper, HB, B 2 and B 4 pencils, some chalk pastels and a gel pen.  The venue will provide a variety of subjects to suit all interests and no prior ability is required.  We shall meet up at 10.30 am., have a lunch break, and an afternoon session and appraisal of work.  Further enquiries from Michael at (086)1203903.

KENRY HISTORY SOCIETY OUTING

Do you know the connection between ‘O’Dearest Mattresses’ and Cappagh?  Well, those who join the Kenry Society members and friends on their tour of Cappagh on May 16 will come away with the answer.  Jim O’Riordan, local Cappagh historian, will lead a trip around some of the historical sites of interest in his native parish, meeting at the Catholic Church at 3.00 pm on the Sunday.
DIED IN DUBLIN

Margaret (Peggy) Murphy’s death was announced on Thursday, April 27 in Hillview Nursing Home, Rathfeigh, Co. Meath.  The late Peggy was known to older citizens locally as her mother was Millea from Kildimo Post Office.  Of many Millea girls, Peggy’s mother married an ex-Guard who may have been stationed at one time in the old RIC barracks which later became the Garda Barracks- now K. Slattery’s B & B.  The deceased worked in the Civil Service in Dublin and lived in Carnew Street, Dublin 7.  She is survived by her sisters Carrie and Joan and predeceased by sister Agnes.  Her funeral took place to Glasnevin Cemetery following Requiem Mass in Aughrim Street Church on Friday, April 30.  Peggy loved to return to her early home in the PO, during her holidays from work and it is fitting that her memory be also recalled in a prayer for her happy repose.

BEALTAINE FESTIVAL

The month of May is set aside for celebrating creativity in older persons and our Minister of State with responsibility for this area, namely Áine Brady, has sent her best wishes to the local ICA Killulta Painters.  This ladies group opened their Bealtaine exhibition in ‘De Bucket’ on Thursday, May 29, with a gathering of artists and friends and a reception supplied by the O’Dea family.  Professional artist Ciaran Carey performed the opening with an appraisal of each artist’s unique style and content.  This painters group holds their annual end of year exhibition in NCW Library and this is their third May exhibition held at ‘De Bucket’, entitled ‘Bóthairín na Smaointe lll’ – a celebration of past memories.  The works are on view during pub opening hours and are on sale to discerning aficionados.  The full programme of the month’s national events is available, courtesy of ‘Age and Opportunity’ and the ‘Irish Arts Council’.
