Kildimo Community Notes W/E August 11 2012

Congratulations to Helena Fitzherald,Kildimo & Seamus Lynch Adare who were married recently.


ANNIVERSARIES:  Past members of the community we like  to  remember at this time includes the late Tommy and Josie McMahon of Ballynacarriga whose anniversary was commemorated with Mass on Sunday last August 5.


COMHBHRÓN:  Sympathy is extended to Louise Hayes on the death of her mother Anne Marnell of Rushdale Drive, Clareview.  Louise is wife of Tom Hayes of Mellon and mother of Alice May.  Anne is also survived by her sisters Mary Marnell, Betty Keane, Susan Nix, Oonagh Donelan and her brother Joseph.  Her funeral took place to Mount St Laurence extension on FridayAugust 3, following Requiem Mass in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Ennis Road.


REQUIEM MASS:  The late Jim McDonnell who died in the US recently will be commemorated with Mass at 12.00 midday on Saturday, August 11.2012 The internment of his ashes will take place to the family plot of the McDonnell’s afterwards.


HERITAGE WEEK:  This year the annual celebration of our native heritage takes place from August 18 to 26.  The very comprehensive booklet of events is available at public offices, libraries, etc.  Limerick city and county has a veritable feast of activities on offer, many centered on the Hunt Museum and all offering a diversity of events to suit all tastes.  Our own ‘Goggin Cottage’ is also featuring and will be open to the public on the afternoon of Sunday August 26 from 1.00 to 5.00 pm.  Should you be holidaying at home during this week, the booklet will acquaint you with happenings wherever you may be. 



AFTERNOON TEA:  Tony and Bernadette Hackett of Ballyshonick in Kilcornan have an open house on the Sunday next afternoon of August 12.  The couple are very actively involved in a feeding programme in the impoverished township of Zwelishe in South Africa.  Every Christmas a food hamper is delivered to families in need and you can be part of this Christian activity from afar by attending the ‘Afternoon Teas and Cake Sale’.  All proceeds from the event goes directly through the Hackett’s towards buying a selection of nourishing food from local traders for local distribution.  There is a 2.30pm start and your support as in the past will be put to good use.  Enquiries from Bernadette on 061 393637/087 7092671.


GRAVEYARD MASSES:  Mass was celebrated in Kilcornan graveyard on Tuesday last August 7 and it will be the turn of the ancient graveyard of the Kilcornan parish, namely Castletown on Monday 13th at 7.30pm.  Lismakeera in Askeaton parish will have their Mass on this ThursdayAugust 9th at 7.30pm and on Friday August 17.Mass will be celebrated in Kildimo graveyard at 7.30pm.
Please inform relatives and friends outside the parish of these arrangements


LOCAL WEDDING:  The happy nuptials were celebrated on Friday July 6, of Helena Fitzgerald of Mellon and Seamus Lynch of Castleroberts, Adare.  The Bride is the daughter of Michael and Margaret and Jim and Catherine are the Groom’s parents.  Helena was attended by her Bridesmaid Natasha Lynch, niece of the Groom and by her Chief Bridesmaid Catherine McGrath, her first cousin.  Standing with the Groom was Groomsman Barry Fitzgerald, Helena’s brother and the Best Man was Niall, Seamus’s brother. The honour of Flower Girls was performed by the two daughters of the Groom, Jane and Nicole.   Following the Civil Ceremony in Limerick, the bridal families retired to Adare Manor for a celebratory dinner.  On the following day, a large party of friends, neighbours and well-wishers joined Helena and Seamus at Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee for a blessing of their marriage followed by a very enjoyable reception.  All good wishes are extended to Helena and Seamus for their future together.


THE ‘TÚS INITIATIVE’:  This is a community work placement scheme providing short-term working opportunities for unemployed people who are referred to West Limerick Resources from the Dept. of Social Protection. WLR are now accepting applications from community & voluntary organisations in the county who wish to be considered for inclusion in the TÚS initiative. The organisations must provide good quality work opportunities that are of benefit to the community.  Organisations with a proposed work placement should register with West Limerick Resources and submit a detailed proposal of the proposed work along with the number of participants required.  Contact West Limerick Resources on 069 77752/3.

SCHOOLS PHOTOGRAPHY: West Limerick Tourism in conjunction with SuperValu is currently running a schools photography competition for students of secondary schools based in the West Limerick area. There are five entry categories including SuperValu Tidy Towns & Villages, History Culture & Heritage, Landscape Natural & Built, Adventures Attractions and Activities and Sport.   Maximum of two entries per category per student allowed. Overall prize of an iPad with category prizes of an iPod Nano and Schools Prize also on offer. CONTACT THE OLDER AND ISOLATED:  This is another worthwhile initiative arising from West Limerick Resources.  Volunteers are required to make contact with vulnerable people on one morning a week, by telephone.  Participants in the scheme would preferably have experience with older people and Garda vetting is a necessity.  The system will operate over the area of west Limerick with a base in NCW.  For further details contact Irene at 069 66298 or icallaghan@wlr.ie.

 GAA LOTTO:  The new Jackpot is now €3.200 and the numbers drawn on Monday July 30 were 3, 6, 15 & 21.  As no member predicted this combination, €50 Lucky Dips were drawn by Tom Griffin, Knockroe; Maria Curran, Ferrybridge; Kathleen Kelly, Cowpark and Karen Rebecca & Emma of Slattery’s.
