ANNIVERSARIES:  Deceased members of the community who will be commemorated at Mass on Sunday October 7, will be P.J. Conway and Noel Hayes.

RECENTLY DECEASED:  On Tuesday September 25, the sad news reached the area that Davy Watts had lost his battle with illness.  His peaceful death took place in the Milford Care Centre and his funeral took place to Kilcornan Cemetery on the Thursday following accompanied by his aunts and cousins and his loyal friends.
The unexpected death took place recently of Jackie Dillon Drumlohan, Kilcornan, husband of the late Margaret.  His funeral took place to Adare Old Cemetery on Monday October 1, following Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Kilcornan.  Condolences are extended to his son James and daughter Cora, his sister Anna and his extended family and friends.

CARI SAYS ‘THANKS’:  The organisers of the recent ‘Coffee Morning’ at Slattery’s Bar, wish to convey their thanks to all those who contributed in any way to their collection of in excess of €300.  The 95 FM Stop Tour was also instrumental in making the event a success.  The wide range of services available for victims of sexual abuse requires continual fundraising at a local level and if you wish to get involved, telephone (061) 413331.  For advice on children at risk, the helpline is 1890 924567.

FREE YOGA:  As a ‘taster’, the first Yoga class at the Seven Sisters will be free.  Classes begin on Wednesday October 10 and will run from 7.00 to 8.00 pm. Contact 086 8551853 for any queries.

KENRY HISTORY SOCIETY:  Your local history society is hosting a lecture on the Palatines in Limerick.  This will be delivered by a descendant of the original group of German-speaking immigrants who came to Co. Limerick in 1709 during the time of Queen Ann of England.  The unsettled political atmosphere at the time allied to poor harvests of their vineyards, acted as further inducements to leave their homelands on the Rhine.    The lecturer Lorna Shier has made a study of her Palatine ancestry as part of her Masters Degree in History of Family at UL, and is therefore doubly qualified to speak with authority on the subject.  The venue for this event is in the Community Hall in Kilcornan as the policy of the history society is to deliver its lectures in the various parts of Kenry, just as they conduct their historical tours around the Barony.  The date and time is on Wednesday October 17 at 8.00 pm.  As usual members and their friends are welcome and a small contribution is suggested to cover the cost of the event.

TRAINING FOR ‘THE GATHERING’:  West Limerick Resources will be rolling out a special local heritage training initiative entitled “My People, My Place, My Heritage” this autumn and is now registering participants.   This training is designed to support local communities that are interested in getting involved in Ireland Reaching Out and/or the Gathering 2013. Ireland Reaching Out is a national initiative which encourages communities to invite its diaspora to renew links with the local community, including paying a return visit.  This training initiative will cover topics including local built heritage, natural heritage and biodiversity and genealogy and will give communities the skills to develop local involvement and initiatives.  Training is free of charge and will take place in Newcastle West starting Monday October 8, at 7.30pm.  The course will run for seven weeks and participants are expected to complete the full course. Limited places available.  To register contact Suzanne on 069 79114 or email srowley@wlr.ie

GAA CELEBRATION:  Ten years on since the Junior Team won the championship, there will be a get-together of the Kildimo team and supporters at the Seven Sisters on Saturday October 13.  Be in your seats for the 8.30 start of the video of the match, following which Tommy McCauley will entertain the masses.  €10 will get you in and a DVD will be available of the historic occasion with all funds going towards the club.

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK:  Pallaskenry Community Council is hosting their annual fundraising event on Sunday October 7 from 2.30 pm.  This is the main source of funding to keep the Community Centre at the centre of community activity.  It has recently had a major overhaul, thanks mainly to West Limerick Resources funding, but the local financial input must back up state funding.  By attending this enjoyable evening and donating useful resalable items, you can ensure the continuation of the services of the Community Centre.

Kildimo ICA: extends its sincere thanks to all who supported their recent fundraiser

DRAMA IN MUNGRET:  The Blackwalk Players Drama Group are staging “A Wake in the West” in Mungret GAA community hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12, 13 and 14 of October 2012.  Written by M.J.Ginnelly the sombre mood of the “wake” is turned on its head by the arrival of 80 year old Rose, who takes a shine to a beautiful set of dentures.  The dentures, however, prove problematic, for a variety of reasons and what unfolds is a series of hilarious events that are guaranteed to leave you with a smile on your face and a tear, hopefully of laughter, in your eye.  A hilarious play which has sold out venues in Ennis, Belfast and Gort.  Proceeds from Friday 12 will be going towards the Niall Mellon Trust Fund.  Hope to see you there.
