RELICS of ST. JOHN BOSCO.

For the first time ever , the Relics of St. John Bosco arrive in Copsewood, Pallaskenry,  on Friday March 1^st 2013. It will be a great opportunity to re-visit the joyful spirituality of the Founder of the Salesians, and be inspired once again. Our focus will not be on the relic itself, but the blessing which his ‘presence’ among us brings. His relics have been the source of blessings and healings, and will be on view in the College Sports Hall.

 The programme in Copsewood is:

Friday Morning till 1pm: Primary Schools, then Secondary and Agricultural Colleges.

Friday afternoon: Open to the public.

Friday evening: Prayer Services on the hour from 6pm – 10 pm and with    Don Bosco Mass @8pm.

ANNIVERSARIES:  The first anniversary of John & Rita Cahill will be celebrated with Mass in St. Joseph’s Church at noon on Sunday March 3.


BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Congratulations to our Kerry sisters who featured in Winning Streak last Saturday night with a wonderful display of crafts by Derrykay Guild members. Reminder to Limerick members of forthcoming Federation meeting in Woodlands Hotel Adare on Wednesday February25th when a display of eggcosies’  and recruitment posters will form part of an exhibition on the night. Bí Linn agus Fáilte

SAINT JOHN BOSCO:  Friday March 1, will mark an important historical first for Copswood Community and College as the relics of the founding father of the Order will be present.  As Fr Martin Loftus the Rector of the Community stresses, it is not the actual relics that are important but the blessing of their presence that the event will bring.  The spiritual presence of the Saint is still active in the work continued under his inspiration and this special event can only serve to revitalise the Salesian charism and those who have been influenced by the legacy of the Saint.  The Relics will be present in the College Sports Hall all day on the Friday, with special events for Schools in the morning.  The general public will be facilitated during that afternoon and the day will close with a prayer services from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm with the Don Bosco Mass at 8.00 pm. 


GOING STRONG PARTY:  The annual party will take place on Sunday March 3 at the Seven Sisters. Commencing at 2. 00 pm with refreshments, followed by meal and then entertainment and dancing to 'Karisma'. Once again we invite all our neighbours and friends to come along and join with us and let the committee look after you on this memorable day.  We would also like to send out an invitation to all those who would like to join with us for the entertainment from 4.00 to 7.00 pm. (Put on your dancing shoes!).  We will then finish up the evening with teas & coffee.


RAMBLING HOUSE:  The very popular Knockfierna Rambling House will hold a special night of storytelling, music, singing, craic at Kilfinny Community hall on Friday March 1 at 8. 00 pm.  Take note of the location at Kilfinny Community Hall for what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment.  And it’s free!  Where would you get it? 



FASHION SHOW:  The Woodlands is the venue for a Fashion Show hosted by Kilcornan Community Council on Thursday, February 28.  There is a draw for children to participate as models with their parents consent.  Details and consent forms from Eileen Byrnes at 085 1324565.  On Sunday February 17 the Annual Community Council Party takes place at the Community Centre from 2.00 pm, beginning with Mass.  Contact any member of the Community Council for invitation.





 GAA LOTTO:  The latest series of draws began on February 11, with Jackpot numbers of 10, 16, 20 & 27.  No members predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 were drawn by Dylan Hogan, Mary Madden, Lucy & Kildimo Parents & Toddlers Group.  The Jackpot now stands at €2,200.



HISTORY:  The next talk in the Thomond Historical Society calendar is on Monday, February 25.  The venue for all these talks is in Mary Immaculate College and you should seek directions to the lecture theatre at the front desk/reception.  The title of the talk to be given by Dr. Pádraig Ó Riain of UCC, is ‘Thomond in a Dictionary of Irish Saints’.  Pádraig’s work in this regard will be the definitive work on this topic which up to now has been unscientific and folkloric.  Among the saints that he has studied is our own Patron Díoma.  All are welcome to these talks and the Society is always open to receive new members.  Yearly membership of €30, entitles members to all events and a historic journal, including tours at home and abroad (at extra cost). 



GAA EVENTS:  Membership Fees for 2013 are now due.  For adult players the fee is €40 with concessions for  unemployed and students at €30.  Social members and Under 16 are both €20 and  the Family membership is €40.  The mountain climb of Carrantuohill in aid of underage games takes place on Saturday March 23.  Sponsorship cards may be collected from any club member and juniors must be accompanied.  For all participants it would be wise to do some training for the event and have suitable outdoor /protective clothing for the occasion.  Enquiries about this event to John after 7.00 pm at 0879174778 or Darren at 085 1342885.


LIMERICK’S BUILT HERITAGE:  The very popular series of lectures sponsored by the Co Co, continues at County Hall, Dooradoyle.  Dr Colin Rynne will present a lecture on ‘The Archaeology of Mills and Milling in Co Limerick’ on Tuesday February 26th This covers the topic of water-powered milling with special reference to mill sites at Knocknagranshy and Ballyline and will bring you up to date on current knowledge on the subject.  All for free and beginning at 8.00 pm.
