Mary Allen ,Clorane celebrates her 40th Birthday in Adare

RECENT DEATHS:  The funeral of the late Norrie Griffin of Clorane took place to Kilcornan cemetery following Requiem Mass in Holy Trinity Church Adare on April 27.  Sympathy is extended to her sons and her extended family.  The death of Mary Hartnett, nee Ahern, formerly of Athea and of the Station House Adare took place to the local cemetery following Requiem Mass in Holy Trinity Church Adare on Saturday, April 27.  Sympathy is offered to her two sons and four daughters and their families and other relations. The funeral of Tom O’Grady took place to the local cemetery following Requiem Mass in St. Joseph’s Church at noon on Monday April 29.  Sympathy is extended to his wife Carmel (nee Griffin), their children and extended families.  Sympathy is also offered to Edwina Nash of Court, on the recent death of her brother

BIRTHDAY GIRL:  Not looking a day over twenty one, Mary Allen of Clorane celebrated a significant birthday last weekend.  Friends from afar joined the local contingent for a meal in Adare and a more liquid sequel in a local hostelry afterwards.  Mary’s proud parents Michael and Chrissie along with her sisters Catríona and Michelle and her brother Edward were happy to record  this recent significant step of Mary towards maturity.

ANNIVERSARIES:   Noon Mass in St. Joseph’s Church on Sunday May 5 will be celebrated in memory of the late Patsy Hayes.

BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Congratulations to the Castleconnell ICA Craft makers who were the overall winners in annual ICA Craft board competition. They were presented with The Biddy Mullane Memorial Cup for crafts at last weeks Federation AGM in Woodlands Hotel, Adare.

Kildimo next guild meeting will take place on Wednesday May 8^th in Seven Sisters Pub, Old Kildimo at 8.15pm.


GAA LOTTO:  The draw on April 22 for a Jackpot of €3,000 resulted in numbers 7, 11, 14 & 24.  No members predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 were drawn by Jackie Griffin, Parents & Toddlers Group, Tom O’Connor and Vera O’Donnell.


HISTORY:  The Mungret Historical Society continues its present series of lectures on that very historical location with a presentation by Mungret native Nessan O’Donoghue on Friday May 10.  This is part one of the history of the area from the Mesolitic to the Monastic.  It’s free and the venue is Mungret College and not St. Nessan’s School as formerly. 


WALKING FESTIVAL:  On Saturday May 4, the Ballyhoura Walking Club launches  their weekend festival on the hoof with a variety of venues and types of walks.  Serious walkers/runners are catered for with a Marathon and if you don’t feel up to that, then there’s a Half-Marathon, starting at 8.30 and 10.30 am respectively.  More leisurely walks take you along the Shannon banks at Castleconnell and Montpelier or through the woods at Glenstal.  If you’d like to have your dog along with you then the ‘Field of Dreams Dog Sanctuary’ in Kilfinane is hosting an event from their premises at Moorstown, Kilfinane at 12. 30 pm and if you haven’t a dog, you can take a grateful canine from their collection as a companion.  All walks are featured on the brochure or on ballyhouracountry.com.

SIGN 4 LIFE:  Following their international success, the inventive team from the Salesian College Pallaskenry comprising Fíona Mangan and Caoimhe O’Neill from Kildimo, Ciara Reidy of Ballybrown, Colleen Mullane of Pallaskenry and Chris O’Brien of Shanagolden recently competed in the National Finals of Junior Dragons Den.  From the luxurious surroundings of the Four Seasons Hotel in Ballsbridge, you will have an opportunity to see the team in action on Sunday next  May 5 at 9.30 on RTE 1.  From initial prompting by Brenda Enright of BOI Askeaton and with the help of others along the way, this young group of students have developed an app that will bring sign language to a wider audience and aid in communication with those aurally challenged.

FUNDRAISER FOR BLAIR:  The Corner House Pallaskenry is hosting an evening of music and fun with lots of Spot Prizes on Saturday May 4.  This is for Blair Salmon who is not enjoying the best of health these times.  T.J. Ryan supplies the music and the cover charge is €5.

COMMUNITY GAMES:  Athletics training continues every Wednesday evening from 7.00 to 8.00 pm in Copswood, catering for all ages from five.  Enrolment is ongoing and enjoyment and fitness will follow and perhaps even fame!  The Annual Sports evening  takes place on Friday May 3 from 6.00 pm in the GAA pitch in Pallaskenry.  All ages of endeavour from under five and upwards.  The running distances will vary from 60m to 1200m. There will also be field events such as Ball Throw, Long Jump and Long Puck.  A meeting to finalise the Sports evening will take place on Tuesday April 30 at 8.30pm in Pallaskenry Community Centre. Anyone interested in helping with this event is very welcome to attend.
