RECENT DEATH: Sympathy is extended to Geraldine Battles and Fíona Hoban on the recent death of their mother Bernadette O’Rahilly (nee O’Sullivan) of Singland Drive, Dublin Road. Her funeral took place following Requiem Mass in St. John’s Cathedral on Wednesday May 8 to Castlemungret Cemetery.
FLOWER FESTIVAL: Local floral artists participated in the Adare Methodist Church Flower Festival last weekend. By invitation from the organisers of this very successful event, Mary O’Rourke of Kildimo ICA and Ann O’Shea of the newly-formed branch of the ICA in Pallaskenry, both collaborated in a display that illustrated the importance of the three churches in Adare, namely the Catholic church in Holy Trinity, the Church of Ireland based in the old Augustinian Abbey of St. Nicholas and the Methodist Church in Black Abbey. The weekend event was patronised by enthusiastic practitioners of the art of flower arranging as well as friends and members of the followers of John Wesley whose preaching left such an enduring mark of the society of west Limerick and whose visit to Adare the 1750’s is annually commemorated by an outdoor event near the old Franciscan Friary on the golf course where he preached. Fundraising events hosted by the Methodists in Adare span nearly two centuries when they held a weeklong ‘Bazaar’ in the village hall when the Monday event illustrated the relationship of cleanliness to godliness, which Mrs Walsh and Mrs Miller demonstrated. Among the attractions over the week, the programme illustrated in the Reverend Cooney’s booklet on the Methodists mentions a ‘witch house and bran pie’ about which modern members of the church would like to know more. The Viscountess Adare opened the event and six old pennies would gain you admission, thruppence for children.
ENTERPRISE TRAINING: Limerick County Enterprise Board continue their training courses at the Woodlands Adare. On Thursday next May 16 there is a ‘Sales & Marketing Clinic’ conducted by Terry Harmer in three time slots of 90 minutes each, at 9.30 am, 11.15 am and 3.00 pm. A full-day workshop is scheduled for May 21 on the topic of ‘Negotiation Skills’, beginning at 10.00 am at a cost of €50. Advance booking is by phone to 061 496520.
DAWN CHORUS: The local branch of Birdwatch Ireland is hosting two local outings to enjoy and identify the morning chorus from our feathered friends. On Sunday next May 19th these events take place at UL, in front of the Concert Hall at 4.45 am and in the Peoples Park Main Entrance at 5.00 am. BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: On Sunday next May19th ICA members and friends will assemble in Castleconnell for the annual sponsored walk in aid of National Breast Cancer Research. The assembly point is beside Castleconnell Catholic Church and walkers will set of on a scenic walk at 2pm approx. Suitable footwear and protective clothing is advised.

GAA LOTTO: The draw on May 7 for the Jackpot resulted in numbers 3, 5, 15 & 19. No members predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 were drawn by Darren O’Rourke, Mary Murphy, Tom Brett & Kieran McMahon.
BINGO: As a fundraiser for Pallaskenry Community Playground, Bingo commences at the local Community Centre on Thursday next May 16 at 8.00 pm.
