The committee would like to thank everyone who took part and supported the hugely successful ‘Family Fun Walk’ in Curraghchase recently. A great turn out on the day from parents and kids meant a successful event. A very special ‘thanks’ to B O’Sullivan of Centra in Clarina for his very kind sponsorship of the refreshments and goodie bags on the day that were greatly appreciated by all.

‘THE AULD  TOWN’:  Askeaton town has a  notable claim for its old status as it once had a member in the British Parliament and it might also claim capital status of Munster given its association with the Fitzgeralds.  As visitors to the historic town cannot always claim the services of its tour guide Anthony Sheehy, a useful ‘Visitor’s Guide’ is being published and launched on Friday May 31 at the Tourist Office in the East Square at 9.00 pm.  This booklet is the work of Dr Gerard Curtin, author of many books and articles and lecturer on the history of West Limerick.  Its importance is attested by the visit of Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht to launch this useful guide to ‘The Auld Town’.

COMMUNITY ALERT:  The ever-active committee of the local Community Alert are always on their alert for funding and facilities for those of mature years especially if living alone.  They are now compiling names of those who are eligible for personal alarm systems.  Contact Dermot (087 9319005) or Roisín (086 1989370) if you are anyone of your acquaintance might require such assistance.

BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Many thanks to all who participated in ICA walk in aid of NBCR in Castleconnell last week-end. Sponsorship cards are being returned shortly and Guild Treasurer Mary O’Rourke, Glenameade will accept contributions to this very worthwhile cause.
On Saturday next May 25 the National ICA AGM takes place in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and all members are welcome. This s an opportunity to meet colleagues from various parts of the country and keep up to date with ICA events.
Reminder to book club members of the forthcoming meeting on Tuesday June 4 in ‘De Bucket ‘Pub Ferrybridge at 1.15pm. Following lunch the chosen book ‘Family of Women ‘by Annie Murray will be discussed.
On the following night Wed June 5 at 8.15pm the monthly guild meeting will take place
at ‘The Seven Sisters’Pub, Old Kildimo.
Bí Linn agus Fáilte.

PALLASKENRY ‘GATHERING’:  In connection with the 150th celebration of the building of Pallaskenry Church, the programme of events is published and available locally.  On Sunday June 9, the newly-ordained Bishop of the Diocese Dr Brendán Leahy will open the celebration with Mass in the church at 2.00 pm.

GAA LOTTO:  The draw on May 13 for the Jackpot resulted in numbers 1, 12, 25 & 26.  No members predicted this combination so ‘Lucky Dips’ of €50 were drawn by Mary Rogan, Helen Hanley, Rosari Shanahan & Sarah O’Dea.

COMMUNITY GAMES:  All roads lead to Athlone this weekend for Kildimo/Pallaskenry Community Games when children for this area will complete in the National Finals. These are a great bunch of kids who have worked hard with Kay over the last number of months and we wish them well.  Their families, schools and the wider Kildimo, Pallaskenry community are very proud of them. Kieran Kelly competed in the County Finals of the Swimming Competition and won a gold medal for the Under 12 Breaststroke.  Kieran will represent Limerick at the National Finals on Saturday in the Breaststroke competition.
