ANNIVERSARIES: Deceased members of the community who will be remembered in Masses in St. Joseph’s Church, Kildimo includes Eamonn Lyons on Thursday at 7.00 pm, and Nano Harte and Maureen Fitzgerald at noon Mass on Sunday February 10.

MICK HANLEY IS COMING: The Community Council and ‘The Seven Sisters’ announce the forthcoming concert by Mick in the end of March. It will be a ticket affair of modest cost and it will follow the descent from Carrantuohill by the GAA members and friends. Full details will follow.
BANTRACHT NA TUAITHE: Among the delegates from Limerick Federation at COFACE conference in Dublin Castle recently were International Officer Kathleen Griffin and Federation President Phyllis O’Halloran.
LETTER FROM AFRICA: The President of St Vincent de Paul Des Collins and the executive mayor of Hermanus have registered their thanks for the support of poverty-striken communities in their area of the Western Cape St. Africa in a letter to local parishes. To quote from the letter, “We were once again most successful in collecting sufficient bags to supply ‘the poorest of the poor’ with a Christmas meal this festive season. Our distribution included Zwelishle, Hawson and Stanford. We cannot sufficiently express the gratitude of the recipients who were comforted in their poverty by your kind gesture”.
SOCIAL MEDIA: ‘Seven Sisters Pub’ is proving a popular hit with former friends and patrons who now connect on ‘Facebook’. Launched recently, emigrants abroad are making ‘hits’ on the site to reconnect with the native sod.
RATHKEALE HISTORY SOCIETY: The current series of talks on local history continues on Friday February 8 at 8.30 pm. There is an open invitation to all to these events in the Community Arts Centre, over the Council Offices/Library on the Ballingarry Road. Maeve O’Riordan of UCC History Department will concentrate on the private lives of the O’Brien’s of Cahermoyle and the Rice family of Mount Trenchard.
POINT TO POINT: The eagerly awaited annual Askeaton Point to Point is being held on Sunday February 10. First race 1.00 pm.
WEST LIMERICK RESOURCES: The good work of this non-profit community development company needs no publicity, but its future may now need your support. Due to possible Governmental policy changes, its continuation may be under threat. In order to offset such a tragedy for this community, public meeting are being held to voice concerns and gather support for the future of the company. Kildimo has much to be thankful for in its community development and the help it has received from West Limerick Resources over the years and now is your time t o give something in return by attending any of the following meetings. These are scheduled to take place in the Glorach Theatre Abbeyfeale on February 7 and Rathkeale Community Centre on February 11. Both commence at 7.30pm. A final meeting will take place in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West at 8pm on February 13. All are welcome.
COPSWOOD GAELS RFC: The Under 10 Blitz featured two matches. Slow to warm up in the first match against NCW, the final result was 15 – 10 in their favour in spite of the great efforts of Emily O’Mahony, Eimear Hickey, Robin Gallagher, Nicole Griffin, Emily Butler and Ned Quinn. Against St Senan’s in the second match the final result was 20 all. Sean Harrison, Robin Gallagher, Freddie Cullen and Sean O’Mahony were the main forces in restoring team pride. Off the field it is Mrs Quinn who has the honour of restoring colour to very brown jerseys! Training continues every Sunday morning at 10.00 when new members will be made welcome by Anthony O’Donovan, Club Secretary who is always available to take queries on 086 1943962.
GAA LOTTO: The old saying that “Lightning doesn’t strike twice”, does not apply to this Lotto for it has been won twice in quick succession. This time the new Jackpot of €2,000 went to Margaret and Mossie Griffin of Faha who predicted the winning number combination of 1, 13, 22 & 25 in the draw on January 28. The new series of draws begins again with a Jackpot of €2,000.
FREE BUSINESS TRAINING: The County Enterprise Board is launching its Spring Schedule of Training Courses, starting with ‘Start your own Business’. This first course begins at Kilmurry Lodge Hotel on February 12 for five consecutive nights and recipients of Social Welfare may attend free by contacting 061 496520. Should you prefer the venue in Kilmallock, the same course is being held there from April 9. The usual fee for the five nights is €50.
GAA EVENTS: The next event on the busy calendar of events is the ‘Table Quiz’, which takes place at the Seven Sisters on Friday February 8, commencing at 9pm. Tables of four €40. A Clothes Collection takes place at the Clubhouse from 9 to 16 February between midday and four pm. Membership Fees for 2013 are now due. For adult players the fee is €40 with concessions for unemployed and students at €30. Social members and Under 16 are both €20 and the Family membership is €40. The mountain climb of Carrantuohill in aid of underage games takes place on Saturday March 23. Sponsorship cards may be collected from any club member and juniors must be accompanied. For all participants it would be wise to do some training for the event and have suitable outdoor /protective clothing for the occasion. LOURDES PILGRIMAGE : Once again the annual pancake afternoon will be hosted at ‘The Seven Sisters’ Pub, Old Kildimo on Tuesday February 12 ( Pancake Tuesday) 2.00 to 5.30 pm. Your support would be much appreciated by the ladies organising this event. Proceeds in aid of assisting pilgrims to participate in Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes
